  • I know I bang on about them, but vocal harmonisers really add something to a live performance and are affordable these days....

  • You mentioned about just having the one vocalist, so to make more out of just the one voice, (as opposed to having backing singers in the band adding harmony lines), another approach is to use vocal harmoniser pedals.

    Apologies.....I knew the context of my ramblings, but forgot to write that down too!!

  • Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody

    Rose Royce - Wishing on a Star (Get that Wah going)

    Shocking Blue - Venus

    White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane

    Abba - Mama Mia

    Chic (take your pick with these)

    Eurythmics - Sisters are doin' it.

    All good dancey tunes (except Jeff Airplane) with good guitar parts and a smoochy with Rose Royce.
    Only a Fool Would Say That.

    Thanks - I just don't know what they are ... I guess a Google search is in order ... unless you have a great link handy to a good demo or a best product

    Ah sorry, gotcha now. The one our vocalist uses I'd the Digitech Vocalist Live 4. http://digitech.com/en/products/vl4

    I'm a backing singer and I use the Eventide H1.

    You plug your guitar lead directly into these pedals and they analyse the chord/notes that you're playing. With the vocalist's mic also plugged into the unit, it then produces harmonies based on what the vocalist sings and the guitar signal.

    Depending on the unit, you can normally have harmonies that are Octave down, 3rd below, 5th below, unison, 3rd up, 5th up, octave up, and some like the Vocalist Live 4 allow a combination of 4 of these at once.

    Obviously the pedals have output jacks for sending the vocal and guitar signals onto wherever they'd normally go, (pedalboard, amp, PA, etc)

    There are loads of YouTube demos out there. We love these units and really add an edge to our performance.

    @hubobulous
    Does your fx unit do vocal pitch correction or have you got to have a voice to begin with?

  • @close2u

    The H1 that I have doesn't, but the Digitech Vocalist Live 4 that our lead singer uses does.

    However, these are the pedals in the range that I use:

    In there you can see this one that I think does what you're looking for:

    The pedals can be stacked so you could use the c1 into the h1.

    I've also got to be honest that my singing is ok, but not great by any standard. But it's so much better than when I began. Like anything, it's practice and working out lines that work well for your current ability level.

    Hope that helps :-)

  • Our rule for designing a set running order is

    Stuff that's musical and interesting - first set
    Stuff that people will dance to - second set
    Works for us!
    0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 1reaction image Wisdom
  • @flatout - that's pretty much how we do it. We start with easier songs to help to warm up, and then effectively set out our stall so the audience knows what we're about.

    The second set is firmly aimed at getting people to dance.

    @Hal9000
    Thanks - Thomas - we won't nick all your songs! ;)
    We're getting there ... I shifted some songs around to get the new list shown above ... although some new may not make it in and some old ones may come out. We are thinking along similar lines to your  suggestion. Thanks :)
