Overcoming oversees postage?

I've been on the lookout for a new overdrive pedal and love the demos of the Chelle Odie. Is now available to UK but postage is going to be $40! If I could find an alternative and cheaper way I'd offer to arrange shipping myself. Anyone know of a good and reliable courier that'd be cheaper?

$40 plus 20% VAT and then duty and handling fee.

(pedal+shipping)x1.25 should cover taxes etc. 

40 dollars isn't unreasonable for registered. If it's regular post it's a rip off
