Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence?

What's Hot
This is a question that I am answering a lot these days due to job applications.  I was wondering does the roadside penalty I took for speeding count as conviction of a criminal offence?

No, it's a fixed penalty which doesn't qualify as a criminal conviction.

Only counts if you were banned from driving because of it.

fairly sure that's not right.Although British law is a weird and wonderful thing.
if anyone does have any and is applying for jobs worth looking at the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act which explains what sentences get spent ie no longer have to be declared.

yes,  two convictions.  One traffic related, one not  My employer knows all about them,  as I need to have certain levels of security clearance.

Hiding them is considered a bigger "no no" than declaring them.  (certain caveats notwithstanding !!)
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

Speeding was decriminalised some time ago, so unless you're speeding sufficiently to be convicted of Dangerous Driving then no, not criminal.

I also have to have a clear criminal record for my job...

Others have some minor or unrelated* convictions but for my role specifically I had to be cleared by the Home Office to handle Controlled Substances, which meant a rather more rigorous examination

*couple of peeps banned from driving for Drink Driving which is I'm fairly sure a criminal record type deal, but apparently isn't a bar to the basic job.

I need to have an enhanced CRB check, I'm worried there are some crimes I didn't know I did.
