  • Hopefully attacking this one tomorrow night, I'm really keen to get something in for this one as it's such a good subject to get my teeth into. Have the general idea in my head, and the final bit is ready worked out in my head again, however my ability to translate this into cubase is what i may have problems with.

Listening to the poem rather than reading it in that voice you get inside your head when you read things really helps bring out the power of the words, and has pushed me much more towards what i want to create than any amount of brainstorming could have done.

  • @thecolourbox
Do you have a link to the poem being recited?

  • @steamabacus if you search the title on youtube its there. I searched it to use as a background sample for the piece (did similar for the zombie themed challenge) but found it helped get the mood better than reading it

    I've actually recorded something!
    :-O

Due to lack of time I've splatted out a quick thing using my looper. I've then added a simple bassline to fill it out. I'm hoping I'll get time tomorrow to add a couple of textural/sound fx type things to make it a bit more atmospheric. I'm not really in the mood to do anything too dark and depressing. Hopefully, what I've got will work.

  • Hmm, @antique_guitars what are the strictness of the rules regarding what samples you can and can't use? Could I use say a motif from a well known classical piece with drums in it as a loop?

  • @thecolourbox as long as it doesn't make up the majority of your submission then that's OK, we are all for the creative use of samples. Just try not to breach copyright if you can.

  • Hmm thanks, I couldn't really do it as I was unable to turn it into a coherent loop unfortunately, couldn't trim it accurately enough

I'm getting annoyed as I really want to submit something but am struggling

  • @thecolourbox What audio editor are you using?
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • It was Cubase but it didn't realise it was that late so I've run out of time unfortunately

On the plus side looking forward to hearing the entries once they are released!

  • I have Cubase SX but I never use it for audio editing - I've used Cool Edit for years and I'm too used to it to change to anything more modern. Cool Edit is absolutely superb for getting into the nitty gritty of real surgical dissection of audio. I believe it's evolved into part of the Audition suite of software these days.

I also use Audacity on my Windows7 laptop but it's not as good as Cool Edit for the really detailed stuff.
