Special edition guitars from a while ago that you still lust after

What's Hot
This one popped into my head today. I remember loving the look of it at the time and I still rather like it now.

Epi junior 57 reissue in TV yellow, think you could buy them for less than £150 at the time.

I do love a sparkle/flake finish. The telecaster deluxe FSR in sparkly green or blue was lovely.

Completely unsuited to anything I do now but I have had a spot in my heart for one of these since my mid teens -

  • Always had a soft spot for the 'Donnie Hunt' Satriani. They're so rare that I'll never find one, although there are a lot of very cool people out there that do wonderful replica paint jobs. This and the Chromeboy are two of the coolest looking guitars IMO. I don't have photos of my Chromeboy which is a bit beaten up, but they ooze awesome whatever their state.

  • It is a bit special huh?

They released 2 versions of the Chromeboy. They had issues with the Chrome paint on the originals, with it not adhering to the basswood body. The 10th Anniversary model has a luthite body which works better with the Chrome. Just amazing guitars, especially given the aerofoil profile of the body.

Not many non-Satriani fans seem to be drawn to these, but they are awesome both in terms of comfort and the tonal possibilities.

50th Anniversary Casino from a few years ago. Great finishes, USA P90s, decent nut width, nice hard case, great price.

Bought a used '97 Peerless factory one instead that sounds like shit (even after a pickup rewind, new magnets, new covers, new electrics), plays badly (terrible buzzing despite a refret and new nut) won't stay in tune (despite new tuners) won't intonate (despite new bridge).

I spent way more than the new cost of the above in "improving" mine and all I have is a slightly shiny turd of a guitar that I've thrown in a cupboard somewhere because the sight of it upsets me so much. The 50th Anniversary models sold out and promptly increased in value. A painful lesson.

I desperately wanted a Japan jem that was finished in a textured black sort of thing, looked great. Can't remember the name.

    So I bought one.

Awful guitar, sold it for what I paid in 3 days. Don't count myself as owning it, really. An old friend had one of the same model, and it was really great, even acoustic it sounded loud and bright but mine was dead.

Maybe a fake? Who knows. Bad luck prolly.

Outstanding! Yeah, I really like the industrial look- guits, amps...save for a love of flame tops- but even then I'd never buy a none trad colour. And I admit one, not all, of the reasons for ditching the Lehle was its offensive luridness in an ocean of Cornish androgeny.

I reckon it's being mad on the Stranglers in my formative years as a youth...and quite serious about that.

However, I've really liked some of your more unsual guitars....they're THAT lurid that they work in a curious way!

Well, I went one stage further...

The Caribbean Mist 93 Fenders were a bit of a limited edition - ie they didn't paint that colour much after 1995 and it wasn't *that* popular back in the day. I had one back in the day, I sold it to pay the rent... and last month I found one and imported it from the USA. I still smile every time I look at it.

I think the Chris Cornell 335 in olive is just about the best looking guitar I've ever seen.
