Ronnie Wood's new guitar

What's Hot
Just seen RW on the X- Factor (not watching it, honest) and he was playing a kind of L5-S / Les Paul Custom hybrid.

Googling suggests that it might be the prototype of a new signature guitar, anyone know if this is so?

I think they made "Customs" in the 70s.

Not with the split diamond headstock inlay. The body binding was very deep too in those days.

I googled L5S and found lots of pictures of Keith Richards with a single-humbucker black one.  Very cool.

I think that both Keef and Ron have used a single pickup L5S in the past.

As you say, Googling it suggests that there might be a signature model out in the future, of which the picture above is the prototype. SOme say that has three pickups but the production model will have two, according to someone on The Gear Page with a "source" at Gibson (not sure how trustworthy that is though). It certainly looks like it could be a three pickup guitar but it could also be the foreshortened image just looking like that.

Edit: have just watched said television program clip and the guitar he's using has two pickups so maybe it's another prototype.

I think it's on some kind of timeshare contract with Jeff Beck.

This is true. They are never seen in the same room at the same time these days....

Occasionally it has a lot more product applied to it on the days it's with Steve Stevens.

If Ron and Jeff are indeed syrup wearers (or sharers) - which I'm more than prepared to believe - the thing that always puzzles me is when did said hairpieces first come into use?  Seeing as both gentlemen have had the same hairstyle since about 1968 and unlike, say, Messrs Blackmore and Paice they were never photographed during periods of incipient follicular challenge.

I think of it as the irish question....

Looks like him out of the 'confessions' films..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.
