Spend my £500 for me.

What's Hot
SamgbSamgb Frets: 774

Ok, i have £500 to spoff on a new guitar. Right now, i vacillate daily between a MIM Tele and an Epi Casino(which i admit is a pretty wide vacillation) but my head can be easily turned by other shiny things.

Im going to say new only because its all very well saying 'you can pick one for for £?' but that might be months down the line until i find a used one. Imagine i am a seriously impatient 4 year old and treat me as such.

I know most of you know more than me. Hive mind - deploy!

Woops. sorry just saw new. In all honesty though buying new is a mugs game for guitars of that price, you'll only kick yourself when someone is selling one for half the price in the classifieds just weeks after you've bought it!

Second hand Baja Tele from these here classifieds. And I agree with Hymnal above. There are two beauties I can think of and you'll have 70 nicker in your back pocket afterwards.

why buy another tele when you only have 2 guitars and one is a tele
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

For £500 you could pick up a Japanese Tele Second hand, or possibly a beaten up US one.  You wouldn't lose much later if you sold it on either.

Other thing that is somewhere between the Tele and the Casino and would be well worth a look is this:

I have one and it is brilliant.

You don't have to wait too long for absolute bargains to appear in the Classifieds here.

Much better than buying new IMHO.  Once you get into the s/h mindset, you effectively end up "renting" guitars for free as you can always sell them on for the same sort of money if you don't get on with something, or if/when you just get bored and fancy a change.  If you buy new, you'll lose half that price if/when you sell on, meaning you're either stuck with it, or you've only got half the amount of dosh for the next one.

Or, if you really want to be treated as a 4yo, give me all your money and I'll give it back when you can be trusted with it.

    :D

  • I'd echo the warnings about buying new and losing a ton of money. If it were my money (and I'm more than happy to take it off your hands...) I'd have a trawl through the classifieds here before I took it near a real guitar shop.

If you really have to buy a new guitar and you're considering MIM Fenders then- not to put too fine a point on it- you'd be a massive idiot not to have a good look at G&L Tribute series guitars as well before you part with your cash. Fantastic value, particularly at the silly prices Thomann are currently asking. UK RRP is right up at the top end of your budget but Thomann has them for £300-£350. If you end up going that route don't thank me, just send me the change ;)

...of course, if you're prepared to wait a while and keep a weather eye on eBay, Gumtree and the like you might just snag yourself a USA G&L for that sort of cash, which would be a farking bargain.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

Considering you have a Tele and a Casino, I suspect your not looking for a Jackson Soloist or an Ibanez JEM?
If that's correct I'd say a Strat, and my personal choice would be a S/H USA one (but you might need about £50 more in the pot).
As for not waiting to find the right bargain, that's half the fun ("it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase") :)

Love that. Love the colour - its the discontinued Muddy Waters signature one(i dont know how they managed that hes been dead 30 odd years) basically isnt it? I nearly had one of those on Ebay last year and lost out. My only reservation there is that by preference id have a maple board. But that is definitely on the list.

Not so long ago I tried an Ibanez RG721-RW and thought it was a bloody nice guitar for around £500. Probably too much towards the shred machine side of things for you, but consider - with the nice satin rosewood on the body, and versatile 5 way switching, plus 2 alnico humbuckers, actually could be used for other styles quite easily. Build quality seemed very high. I nearly got one, and I play jazz... :D
