I like th EB vol pedals but I think mission are probably the "cool" name in exp and vol pedals at the moment.   I like to have the option of a tuner out socket that some pedals don't have so it might be worth double checking if that's a necessary feature.

Yes it is fantastic, big footprint but feels great to use. The newer version also works as an expression pedal but is smaller.

I like Morley pedals - they are solid and the optical sensor means not risk of scratchy pots (I use a tremonti wah)  but it's worth noting that they are powered and need batteries or a supply. That might not be an issue but it's easily overlooked with most volume pedals being passive.

I use EB Vpr and Vpr Jnr and the AMT Little Loudmouth II, depending on board space. All 3 are great

Most of the standards have been mentioned above but if his budget can stretch it may be worth checking out Hilton or Goodrich Volume pedals.  Tapestry Audio are also in the process of releasing what looks to be a great smaller footprint more robust volume pedal called the Bloomery.  Promises to not have the weak point of the string like the EB which is a real pain to change when snaps!

Otherwise have a look at this little interesting contraption which is very small and cheap to boot!!
