I am so completely unable to wah, it just sounds like a duck. So tonight i put it at the end of my chain and it has actually become a useful effect. I can add sweeps to synth like tones and add eq to delays and more emotion to my music.

If you haven't tried it already I highly recomend it.

You should try one before and one after dirt.

Try one after with a mids-scooped sound. I suspect you'd like that.

SRV did that in "Stay What!". He had two Vox wahs next to each other, sometimes working together and sometimes against each other. There's some extreme wah'ing going on in that track.

  • I have a wah after my fuzzy drive, but before my distortion. It can get pretty shrill if it's just after drive into a clean amp, but the sweep is huge and synthy. The bad horsie doesn't really do funky quack.

If I run it with the fuzz and the distortion on, it's just a massive, exaggerated sweep which is really cool. But if the distortion comes off it is quite bright and nasty.

I think a lot of the quack-ness depends on the inductor, some companies make/use nicer than others

Also, how hot the output is can affect the sound a lot, my wah is a lot friendlier with singles than hums

to some up, quack quack quack, adult movie, quuaaaaackk chicka chika

I have mine after fuzz and before distortion, so I can do either the synthy/filter thing or the more normal 'rock' wah.

I generally move the pedal fairly slowly though, I really don't like that quack sound.

Some fixed wah sounds can be useful. I never do the funky duck thing because I've got the coordination of a one legged man.

  • I use a cry baby before my tubescreamer because I read I should, but I must experiment with it after.

I have wah after drive or distortion but before amp set to small amount of dirt.
