1. Anyone got any thoughts on how hard it would be to strip the paint off one of these things?
2. Would it be cheating to get someone else to finish it?
I'm going to start with a knife and a hair dryer, and if that doesn't work I'll move up to a proper heat gun. Hopefully, it'll peel right off.
I could probably get by with just sanding back the current finish and using that as a primer of sorts, but I'd rather it have a thinner finish than it probably has.
I might be in. I really want this but not sure I'd be modding it in any way...
That's all part of the fun I guess, finding out how good (or not) it is for the money in its standard state, and then working out what's worth spending on it to improve it ...
A tentative "I'm in" from me too. I'd love to get involved, but theres no promise of having the cash to do it... I'll see if I have the cash come entry time. If I do, i'll be taking part though I'm actually hankering for the 7 string Bass, but it comes in at £220ish. I'd be happy to take part in a non-competetive manner if that would be the case? It's neck through, so plenty room to irreversibly fuck it up on their part. We shall see how it goes.
Yeah, after my recent build experience, I'm rather itching to get my teeth into something else. Modification would be a lot of fun. A tentative yes from me, as I will be finishing my degree this summer, so can go right ahead with it after that! I reckon, maybe the active '84' style explorer in white or black, depending if I want to 'Eet Fuk' it up or maybe Wolf to Man inlays... or perhaps one of the L450- Pluses and my imagination!
I'm quite excited about this - I think I have enough bits (assuming compatibility) that the only thing I'll need is a blank square of pickguard plastic.

Good point, I could use the Bigsby as a chin rest and control it that way! The lack of frets won't matter, it'll still alter the pitch; and besides, I don't even know how to play one yet!

Jolly good but i still astound myself how thick i can be sometimes.

Go on then - I'm in; if need be I can just get one of the thirty quid ones as a starting point.
As well as the silly cheap normal prices and B stock HB guitars, they also sell some super cheap as "decorative" so the warranty does cover any playability issues (DSR still apply of course so a quick return is fine). Decorative guitars and basses
I read about them on a couple of forums with people reporting the faults as tiny e.g. a dent or a set up needed - if we're modding them anyway there could be an even better bargain to be had.
if we can get discount of 10% or more I may go for 2. quite fancy the 22" RG as well as the 19" strat. the strat would get stripped, carved and decorated and a single toaster pickup. the RG would get aluminium plate, possibly engraved, and a single humbucker.
but asking for 10% off those prices is a bit cheeky
I also need to order a explorer gigbag from them anyway - so will be putting an order in this week

Edit: I'm just going to get this and reshape the headstock, strip, nitro and heavy relic it.
