    True @Kebabkid

It's bothering me who played on the Maria Vidal track, it sounds "Huffish", I'll have to research. The Chesney one I thought was Nik Kershaw, I remember being told it wasn't him, but can't remember who it was, more Googling needed I expect.

  • Prince - Get Off

Greatest guitar move in a video too: 5mins dead solo, move 20 secs later

    Prince - Sexy MF

Incredible jazzy solo from Levi Ceaser Jr. Perfect pop song too. Learned this by ear once, that was an hour and a half of effort. 4m 42s

    Honourable mentions

Prince - When Doves Cry (I don't anyone who can play that intro)
    Prince - Let's Go Crazy - 2m 39s

Paul Weller - You do something to me.

Surprised this hasn't come up yet? 1.20 onwards.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

@spacecadet- what about "Green tinted 60s mind"? What a great pop song and nice, fitting, non-widdly solo from Mr.Gilbert

  • @Kebabkid indeed, great tune. To Be With You as well. Paul Gilbert has to be one the best all round players ever. He can shred as good if not better than anyone but when he wants to be musical and melodic he's just incredible. Lovely guy too.

@spacecadet I love that song. Sat down over Xmas to learn the intro, but never went on to try the rest!

Haven't really listened to Mr Big for years, I had 'Lean into it' and 'Bump' on cassette back then, so I picked up a cheapo best of CD to re-live the early 90s!

There's the whole of a live gig from San Francisco on Youtube from '92, worth a watch.

Some cracking entries already people and makes it hard to suggest others since some of my favourites have already gone.

Heart - Magic Man (Howard Leese)
Steely Dan - Ricky don't lose that number (Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter)
Aztec Camera - Somewhere in my heart (Roddy Frame)
Suzanne Vega - My name is Luka (Mark Shulman?)

@ ESBlonde - Superb call on Suzanne Vega - My name is Luka (Mark Shulman?) - great sound and playing.

That ones prompted me to Edie Brickell's "What I want". Brilliant auto-wah/envelope filter solo at 2:10. If anyone knows a device that achieves that particularly sound (I've tried a lot of pedals with no joy), please let me know

Always thought the solo in Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" was exquisitely phrased.
The rest of the thing is a wretchedly mawkish pile of cack, mind you.
