Plugins: what's good?

What's Hot
I'm looking around for decent plugins that do fancy guitar type effects. Probably delay, tremolo and reverb. Sound Toys stuff looks good.

Anyone using anything they'd recommend?

Ta.

  • The Melda bundle is very good. Tons to play with there. Magnus Jonsson's Ambience is a rather good free reverb, Blue Cat audio for good free chorus.

    Scufham is cool.

Primarily an amp sim, but has some nice mod/verb/delay

Try the Kjaerhus Classic plugins- they're wuite old but they do some good noises and are rocessor-friendly.
There's a link on HERE. Also a link to SIR reverb which is cool too.

  • Valhalla does reverb rather well. That's sorted.

Delay I'm leaning towards a Sound Toys Echo Boy purchase. But the ilok usb pen stuff is a pain. Any ideas for a fancy delay plugin suitable for guitarness?

Wasn't happy with the tremolo above though I might try that again. I want a seek trem / goatkeeper / super pulsar in a plugin. Ho hum...

  • The Soundtoys stuff is excellent. I bought the Native Effects package and really couldn't be happier with it. EchoBoy is fantastic! I use Tremolator a lot too. And Phase Mistress! They are about to update to version 5, which I believe will be iLok-free. I can't say I have found the iLok to be any trouble.
Having tried the demo versions of the Valhalla reverbs, I can heartily recommend them. I haven't heard much that compares favourably to the older Lexicon hardware units, but the Valhalla reverbs have the almost three-dimensional depth of the expensive Lexicons and at $50 a pop, it would be rude not to. Ubermod is great too, if you like complex, multi-tapped delays with modulation.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Decent cheap delay: tkDelay by Trikit at 29 Euros. I bought this when it was in beta for half the price and it's worth more. I especially like the modulation on it. The Rop Papen delay is well worth picking up too.

Step sequencer trem: Melda's MVibrato plugin has the option to use a step sequencer to control the modulation. It's not hypereasy to use like a Zvex pedal but it is very powerful and it's free. You can also draw your own waveform shapes and use a preexisting audio file to act as the control waveform. It's absurdly powerful for a free plug.

Forum tip: join KVR. The forum is good and the classifieds section is great. It's the best place to buy and sell plugins secondhand that I've found.
