I'm in the process of doing it now! Haha, we've lugged some gear half way across manchester on our backs only to be told the bad news, egg all over my face.

I've got half way to a gig before having to turn back and collect my bass.

I did book tickets for me and the missus to see a DV8 show and turned up a day early (luckily they had a cancellation so we didn't have to come back the next night)

On one holiday we turned up at a hotel to find the management had screwed up and double-booked us - after a bit of frantic running around they found us an acceptable room - bearing in mind this was for a family of five with three children, that wasn't easy - and gave us an all-you-can-eat meal for free (which was excellent) to apologise, and then on the return journey at a different hotel we turned up a day earlier than the booking - our fault this time, we'd booked it wrong - but again they managed to find us a room that was almost big enough and the kids had to sleep Victorian-style, three in one king size bed with the middle one facing the opposite way .

I'm pretty scatty to be honest and regularly mess dates/times up in my life....

I wonder why the band let me organise the dates, actually I dont they're bone idle!!

That's pretty bad.
My sister and her daughter did once mix up the NIA and the NEC and it cost them £100 to spend the evening on a car park about 15 miles from where Rhianna was actually playing.
I did once report my car as stolen when I'd just walked back to the wrong car park. That was not long after I had driven to Wolverhampton to go shopping and taken the bus home, not realising I had taken the car until I got home.
And many more...if I could remember them.

Did the venue not call up and ask where you were?

No no calls or anything, I kind of know what's happened:

We're playing the venue we turned up at last night next month with the same promoter but it's organised by an American record label that are touring some bands around the UK. I've been in contact with the UK promoter but think we've been discussing different dates, plus he's moved house, had no internet and lost his phone over the last week (I know this is true as spoke to him last week) so I don't think he really knows what is going on....Finally, we've cancelled a date on the 4th of April, over the last couple weeks and think while I've been cut and pasting/deleting I've confused the dates and this one has kind of stuck.

I have learned that:

1) It's hard keeping track of everything with the band, which I do.

2) We need a manager!!
