A *day* in the workshop

What's Hot

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get the best part of a week in my workshop, which gave me time to finish a few guitars that had been projects since the summer.  If you missed that post, it was these 3 ...

image

Back at work now - :(  - so there's not much chance to get another week out there anytime soon, but because I get up early, I managed to squeeze a few hours in the workshop yesterday afternoon and again this morning, which gave me time to finish another long-term project.

This is a @GSPBasses body that was sprayed by @lamf68 last summer.  It's powered by the set of Oil City ScrapYard Dog+ pickups that @theGuitarWeasel wound for me earlier this week.  Bit of a forum guitar really!

It's a bit dull here this morning - if the sun makes an appearance, I'll take some better pics.

Nice that's really awesome Tony. Been waiting on you finishing this guitar since you got the body.

I thought you were going to fit the prs 59/09?

Thanks for all the comments guys.

My role with this one was just putting it together - the hard work was done by others!

I *was*, but then I had a change of plan.  It was originally going to be a PRS-alike - I've got some original winged locking tuners, a complete wiring loom with the 5-way rotary (which I like!) and the p'ups.  But, for various boring and pragmatic reasons, I didn't use any of those bits.

It needs the set-up work doing, but I'll wait until the neck settles down with the string tension.  It's not a million miles off as it is.  And I've got to make a decent control cavity cover for it.

That is truly stunning! I'm determined that I do not need another 6-string, but pics like that really challenge that determination! :)

That's a beautiful guitar, not usually a fan of PRS type fancy tops but that is beautiful. Good job.

That is absolutely stunning. Hoping to clear the garage out this summer so I can try a bit of building. I doubt it'll ever come close to matching that.

@TTony would you mind if I steal these pics for my facebook page, I've basically lost every pic I've taken from last june till January this year..Rich

Also, what camera did you use to take them?

That red GSP one is just stupendous, the red clear finish on the quilt maple is utterly gorgeous - I find myself staring open mouthed, a total wow if ever there was one. The choice of chrome hardware with those clear speed knobs is spot on as well - perfection.

@lamf68 - please, help yourself!  If you want higher res versions, just let me know.

The camera is probably prehistoric now in DSLR terms - Nikon D5000 - but I really like it.

And don't worry too much about the crying risk - I'm not planning on selling it anytime soon!

Remember that Grahame built it, and Rich painted it - and they are both bloody good at their respective crafts.

My self-builds are a lot more modest looking than this (the single p'up Strat-shaped guitar in my original post is mine, the others are the work of the master that is Grahame.  So don't be put off!
