Stupid symptom list

What's Hot

OK, so literally 10 minutes ago I started getting a throbbing pain on the underside of my left forearm, close to the elbow, which has sort of translated into a warm, very slightly numb feeling down to my hand. Being an online kinda guy, I went straight to t'Internet and ended up at the NHS heart attack page, where I saw this:

Signs and symptoms suggesting a person has gone into cardiac arrest include:

  • they appear to not be breathing
  • they are not moving
  • they do not respond to any stimulation, such as being touched or spoken to

Now, forgive me for being a little morbid, but aren't those also the exact symptoms of being dead from pretty much any non-specific cause?

It sort of begs the question, "What's the point of including these symptoms?".

Am I missing something here?

My ex girlfriend had exactly those symptoms in the bedroom. That explains a lot.

yep - the clue is in the second word of the first symptom.
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

So, suspecting a heart attack, you have you sought the advice of NHS Online, and the FB community, have you chatted to someone with a medical qualification?

No, I didn't suspect a heart attack. A Google search suggested it from the symptoms, and I figured I'd check it out in the absence of a useful diagnosis. I have since come to the conclusion that NHS Online is basically useless (it has a symptom checker for everything except pain in the arm) and the feeling is slowly coming back in my arm.

No, nothing out of the ordinary - just sitting at my desk, and suddenly it started. Most strange.

Could be a trapped/pinched nerve in the neck.

I'm lucky enough to be enjoying one of those for the second year running, and get sporadic numbness/tingling/pins and needles in the forearm and thumb.

Could be posture-related, mine came on from hours spent in front of a PC working all hours on two business sales for clients.

A GP mate of mine told me last week that the first symptom that 25% of people with undiagnosed heart disease get is death.

Just thought I'd pop that in there.

Highly likely; it lasted about 20 minutes, and hasn't come back since. I'm willing to treat it as a quirk of the human body, brought on by extreme lack of sleep and stress. Unless it happens again, of course, at which point I'm straight off down to the doc's.

  • the problem with googling ANY symptom on google is that you ALWAYS end up with the absolutely worst case scenario

Nearly ever symptom you can think of will return some kind of cancer

Google is a Hypochondriacs worst nightmare

Noooo - I'm already on the happy pills !  Why do you think I'm so jolly !!

It's a fact.... (well, presuming he wasn't making it up)...  nothing 'miserable' about it.

Unless, of course, you happen to be in that 25% !
