Wow - some serious kit in there now - do Axminster have a "customer of the month" award??

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

I might go down as 'pain in the ass customer of the month' as I've been on the phone to them most days.
I had a couple of issues with the order.

The cyclone had a missing connecting part and they included the wrong bags.
The Jet planer/thicknesser had a fence that couldn't be set to 90 degrees to the feed tables.
So far no-one has responded to any email I've sent for help so I've had to call them up.
Once you get someone on the phone they are good though- they trust you know what you are doing and don't quibble when you tell them something isn't right.

We talked about this earlier- I'm keeping the carpet for a bit to see how I like it.
It will be warmer and nicer to walk on and there was no clear consensus about it being any cleaner either way.

If I really hate it then it won't take me long to rip it up- the bandsaw is on wheels and the planer will be soon- they are the beasts that need two people to move easily if not on wheels- everything else I can mange myself.

I give it a couple of months at the most.

Ever seen a carpeted spray booth?

    Ever seen carpeted operating theatre?

You are probably right but it doesn't hurt to have it down for now. I figure if it gets taken up now, it is ruined. If I take it out later, it is ruined.

Say hello to my new little (or not so little) friend.

    image

    I call him Mr Routey.
He is seriously impressive, as a piece of engineering.

Also built the UJK router table.
I have a Trend router in that one.
Mr Routey is too capable in other areas to put in the table.

    Er... ok.
I genuinely have no idea what you are talking about though.
Some sort of sport, I guess.

I've had a couple of people mispronounce it as Evenflow.
    Pearl Jam fans no doubt.

Man alive, this stuff is expensive for what you get.
I could have bought an entire extractor for what it cost.

Works great though- I have a couple of blast gates still to go in, which should help with suction at the end of the chain (bandsaw and drum sander).

    Really nice stuff James.

I'm currently undergoing the short courses at The Metropolitan Uni and always wondered about the full degree.

I have spoken many times to both Nick's at CASS and it is a shame that they do not focus so much on solid bodies and mainly on acoustics.

Keep us posted with your future projects!

I registed my consultancy as that last month for both the PJ ref and the Lean connotation; that said, I did wonder if it made me sound like a plumber instead. :D

With 'consulting' you could be consulting to anything- so yes Evenflow consulting might be a consultant to the plumbing industry.
If you do consult to the plumbing industry may I suggest your first recommendation is 'get trousers that fit'?

It took me a long time to settle on a name- it would be much simpler if I could just use my surname but that wasn't an option.
I don't have a middle name so I couldn't put something between the J and the R and JR guitars has an obvious Junior reference and a Dallas reference.

I almost called it 'Seven Deadly' as in Seven Deadly Sins, but people would expect me to build 7 strings plus there is a company called Strictly 7 already (who make 7 strings).

I like Evenlode, as a word- it sounds nice in the mouth- it has Hobbitty connotations- the area around the river inspired JRR Tolkien apparently- and it sounds like it might have a history attached to it- it is an old word, rather than a new word- if you now what I mean.

  • I'd have spent more time on it if I was looking for clients, but it's just so I can continue contracting on my own terms rather than via an agency for the next two years. :)
