None of you will have heard of him, but his name is Zul Sutan:

I used to play with him a lot when I went to United World College, and numerious of other schools while I was studying in Singapore.  He was the first person to pay me to play guitar, well the pub he owned in Tanglin Shopping Centre in Singapore was the first place to employ me to play the guitar in a band.  Because of him I got into music professionally, and haven't looked back since, he gave me my first break in what has turned out to be my career.

I think Billy Corgan should count as well, he's a well-known musician but he doesn't get enough attention as a lead guitarist. 4:20:

Get beyond the dodgy vocal on this and his solo at the end is just astonishing.

Whether he's technically underrated is debatable but I would have to say Mick Taylor.  Similarly Kim Thayil was a massive influence on me and although he gets recognition it seems the moment Soundgarden drop out of the limelight he gets forgotten about.

Zappa, never really crowned as a top player, more known for his songwriting /singing but this guy is an astonishing player, so he's my unsung hero.

    Pat Travers.
An absolute monster of a player with a tone to match. He's never mentioned on here, which I find astonishing as his 'Putting It StraIght' album from 1977 was a benchmark in rock-guitar history.
The first time I ever saw him was on TOGWT where he played 'Makin Magic' and was completely floored by his performance.

Cradock and yeah I like his playing but I'm not sure other guitarists would agree. He has written some Classic riffs - Riverboat song - who wouldn't have wanted to write that?

My favourite though is probably You've Got it Bad.

I'll throw Richard Hawley in - is known for his voice but years playing clubs and session work means he could probably shit all over most.

James Dean Bradfield doesn't get as much recognition as a guitarist as he deserves.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

    Greg Howe. This is stunning:

    Steve Clark of Def Leppard.

The epitome of subtle expressive playing. Could say more with one note that most can with 50. Writer of some great and unusual licks
