I have a hankering for a CE22

I really like the way strats feel and I use the trem constantly, but I also like the way mohog guitars with buckers sound. 

It appears to me that a CE22 would be about the perfect guitar for me. 

Anyone got one?

Hmm now if only someone had one they fancied trading for an ASAT...

I've always had an itch for these too, goldtop one is the nuts.

However, I like a strat neck pup too much and this wouldn't get close. If you can live without that then a good workshorse I reckon.

I've had a few in the past,very smooth soundin guitars with great sustain. You need to ditch the 5 way more so on the ce's then any other prs in my opinion as it doesn't work well with the bolt on neck. I didn't like the wide fat necks in the end and sold them but now I'm a little wiser I'd be tempted to get one again and gently thin down/reprofile the neck.

I'd stay clear of the USA EG linked above.I've had two of theses in the past and the early ones suffer with weak neck joints as the pocket floor is too thin and results in the cracks you can see and a neck you can use like a trem arm. The latter ones are better and have a thicker floor. My old gold one was a really great guitar.

Out of all my guitars my CE24's and my EGII's get the most playing
Grungebob is right about the first EG's having a problem with a weak neck pocket joint, what used to happen was there wasnt enough wood around the neck pocket. The neck used to flex and crack the wood around the pocket which put a lot of people off the model. Which is a crying shame coz it was an easy fix, just glue the neck in job done and you end up with a killer guitar for hardly any money.
PRS fixed the problem by beefing up the neck pocket on the EGII series but the damage was done by then and PRS lost money with each guitar sold.
The early CE24's with alder bodies are fantastic tone monsters and can still be picked up cheap for what they are.
If you are after a Strat on steriods i suggest you look out for a PRS EGII with 3 Fralin domino pick ups.
They sound superb but are increasingly rare in this country.
I know where there's one for sale in two tone sunburst for £750 in great condition

My CE22 best guitar I've ever owned.  Not the most expensive but definitely my favourite.  Currently has McCarty wiring and a set of pickups from Ash, Nightfighter in the bridge and an alnico II Scrapyard dog+ in the neck.

I really want that, it is the exact model and colour I would pick, except for the trem but I'd just fit a tremolno and mostly leave it locked. However I can't justify it unless it would actually be a better instrument than my CU22, as I wouldn't keep both. I really think my CU22 is a fantastic instrument and doubt it'd be worth the drive to find out otherwise. I should start playing the lottery again...

The EG-II (HSH, 5-way, coil taps) is worth looking at if you're used to a strat but want to introduce some good humbucker sounds and keep a trem. I've just picked one up and couldn't be happier. IMHO, it really melds a Strat and a Les Paul to produce a fantastic workhorse. Prices vary between £600-900. However, these are alder bodied, not mahogany, but I think that helps give you a heavy dose of "Strat Quack" as well as focused and clear hb sounds (Nile to Gary Moore/Slash easily)!

I do note and thank @grungebob and @bignorm for highlighting neck issues with them, and @dindude, who also mentioned this in an earlier post - I don't seem to have that with mine, but I'll get Charlie Chandler to look at that and see if it's worth gluing the neck in.

CU22s with coil taps are also very good.

I love the CE's and you can pick them up pretty cheap.

I spoke with a distributor of PRS a few years ago- apparently bolt-on models make up less than 10% of the guitar sold.

Not many people want them & they tend to go for the set neck models.

The early 90's CE's are some of my favourite guitars.

Here's mine...it's a CE24. This model has an all mahogany body (no cap). It is just awesome. I have been playing my other guitars recently and the other day I picked up the CE again and it just felt amazing. If feels like butter to play, always stays in tune and it sounds the best of any guitar I’ve owned. Everyone should have one.

@monquixote - Hi Nick, my friend who sold me the EG may have his CU22 up for sale (has Dragon II pickups, 3 way selector  and coiltaps). It's a lovely guitar, great player with plenty of zing to it when tapped and full sounding in HB mode.
