Money for nothing, and your kit for free.

Most of us probably had to do with cheesegrater guitars at 17 years old, and then appreciated the better kit as and when we were able to afford it.

They say "don't ask and you won't get", but there are limits.  Also, it seems a shame if this puts people off the whole crowdfunding idea, and then worthwhile projects suffer as a result.

My first guitar was an encore start, Ibought it myself when I was 14, it cost me £109 and I saved for two years saving all my paper round money.. when I went to GIT in London I couldn't afford a better guitar so did the first to years on that, then for my 21st my who Family helped me fund buying a MIJ Sambora strat, which was light years better and to be honest helped me get through my final exams and got me my first pro work. My Family contributed £200 to my £800. All the time I was at uni I worked for superdrug to fund my living and fees.

I pointed out to my parents that I had always wanted a guitar and they were terrible for not buying me one.   They pointed out I had never asked for one and they were not mind readers.    In hindsight they may have had a point

tbh, if crowd funding was around when I was a teenager I would have seen it as worth a punt - she isn't going to loose anythign by trying

Indeed....(although i think its a reverse trap for female to male). A trap is where a boy looks like a girl and is named accordingly because its only when youre having a fumble later on that you find out shes actually sporting a set of turkey giblets, hence youve been trapped! Happens alot in Thailand i beleive (although never to me i must add...ahem). Anyway, i wasnt using it in that context for this poor guitarless maiden.....

I went to birthday party recently of a friend of a friend. On the bar was a jar saying 'Donations for Vicki's operation.' I didn't know Vicki well, so asked what was wrong with her and if was it serious.

I was told she was asking for money for a tit job as she couldn't currently afford one.
