I've never had a problem with noise unless I am right up against my amp. Best pickup in the world IMO.

Yeah, only a light overdrive with a boost for solos generally using a '55 junior with original P90 and a replica Junior with a Mojo P90 and generally f*cking loud!

Good question. I'm yet to have mine at volume but the noise when playing in a tiny room with a computer in at low volumes is annoyingly buzzy.

It's whatever they used in '55 so I'd imagine it was stock :-)

P90 no different to any other single coil really. I had the gain and vol up quite muchly last night with the Esquire, just kept me hands on the strings tween tracks.

    Humbuckers. Pfff. :)

I gig with a LOUD classic punk tribute band - I run my Les Paul Special DC (two pickup junior) through overdrive and distortion depending on the song (Okko Diablo and RAT respectively).

To answer the question - no, I don't have trouble with background noise (unless you count the bass player). It's no worse than any other single coil guitar as mentioned above. But it sounds so good - I can go from Stiff Little Fingers style roar to The Specials ska clank with just a turn of the volume control on the guitar.

    Never Ever Bloody Anything Ever.

I find P90s hum less than other single coils such as Strats and Teles and now I'm using a VHT buffer, none of my single coils hum or buzz. :P
