the guy on the right with Lloyd Cole just gave the perfect lesson on how to play a Fender Jag.

Feel free to post other guitar related Jools stuff on this thread.

On the second song stage right was using a white Jazzmaster and left had sunburst Jaguar. I was quite partial to Lloyd's Starcaster.

I met LC once,  back in 1987.....on a kids TV program.....miserable and a little arrogant...........but I cheered up later on...

sersiously....... he was.......very.  XTC were on the same program (and Eddy Grant)...... different kettle of fish altogether.. really nice blokes

I talked to him for a while at a party in Glasgow in the early eighties.  The Commotions had just recorded their first album, not released at that point.  He seemed OK.

Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice) was at the same party as was Roddy frame (Aztec Camera). Friend of a friend had something to do with Postcard records.

Lloyd Cole is one of my favourite artists ever, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's a bit of a miserable bugger. Missed most of Later but downloading it now...

I did catch a couple of minutes of Passenger - is that really his singing voice or is it as contrived as it sounds?

Just watched it. Totally agree - it goes with what I said in the other thread about them being a great guitar.

I have to admit I was studying it very closely - the band are apparently from Glasgow and that's where I sold my old one! It wasn't mine - although it took me a few careful looks to be sure. I want it back more than ever now :(.

The band is The Leopards - I used to play five's with Douglas the other guitarist, who also runs the Creeping Bent label. I think the guitarist you are talking about is Mick Slaven, who I remember for the solo on the Bourgie Bourgie single Breaking Point, a classic 80's pop moment!

Ha, I once owned a Fender Swinger which belonged to him then! I had no idea what he looked like or what he did later.

I still know where it is, wonder if he'd like to swap it back for the Jag? :D

Another sad minor celebrity Lloyd Cole and The Commotions related fact is that Blair Cowan, the Commotions keyboard player bought my mother's house...

,,,and as for this party - was it in a flat near Great Western Road? I have a vague recollection of being at a party there at New Year, and going for a pee in the back court alongside Edwyn Collins:)

I'm a fan of Lloyd's literary pretentiousness (I used to quote it when trying to pull girls when at college :\"> .. it never worked!).I particularly love his first solo album which features Robert Quine heavily. Some lovely stuff on it.

He does still seem a bit miserable, but that's why I like him so.

Small world!   Definitely was the West end, think it was behind the Grosvenor Hotel though, one of those huge Georgian houses.    I think it was summer, but can't really remember as I'd been sampling the Glasgow "horticulturists" finest that evening .. >:D<

I thought he was ace for about thirty seconds, then it all got rather samey. Great to hear something bluesy done with a different sound, but when the different sound becomes the same sound it loses something of the impact.

Didn't think it was a very good show really - McCartney was dull, the interview with Jools was worse, and the only things I really liked were Arctic Monkeys and Katy B, both of who have done better stuff...
