NGD - Luther Dickinson 335

Went all retro with this Luther Dickinson ES335 (with ES330 DNA!). Always wanted a semi with a bigsby and P90s so was excited to see Gibson launching this model a few months back. Having sold the PRS P22 it was time to go shopping again! It sounds divine, plays great and I am (surprisingly) loving the VOS finish, looks mint but old at the same time.

    Ooooh
    :)

Luther is a ridiculously good guitarist as well.

If you join a cult and give away all your stuff remember me when you get to this.

Ooh, just had a sex wee. Possibly because my wife hasn't spoken to me in a civil manner or allowed me 'husband privilege' for 3 weeks now, or possibly because that is lovely.

Luther is a friend and was super psyched when Gibson gave him free reign to design a signature.

I got to play one of the prototypes but haven't had a chance to check out the final.  What I love about it is the 330 vibe in a 335 shape - so the neck join is in a better place than a 330 etc.  The proto-type was 100% hollow.  I assume this one has a center block.

  • That is a thing of beauty - congrats on a stunning guitar :)

@Mosfed, yeah it has the centre block as per a regular 335. It's the tones that got me, and that singing feedback at the end of this video!

I worked on The Word as a recording engineer.  Robert Randolph, John Medeski and the North Mississippi All Stars.  Amazing record.  Luther and Cody were still struggling back then and this record really helped.  Since then they have really taken off.

If you haven't heard The Word, I would highly recommend it.  I used the first tune (Joyful Sounds) as the music we played walking out of the church at my wedding.

Wow! I bought Shake Hands with Shorty when it first came out ( 2000 I think) and was blown away by it yet didn't keep up with the NMA's after for some reason and then saw that Luther was playing with the Black Crowes. I seem to remember hearing Noel Gallagher was a big fan of the NMA's and maybe that put me off...

I will clearly have to check out The Word
