I had huge amounts of fun playing some Arturia VSTs through the helix last night, set VST output to USB 3 & 4, then set helix input to USB 3 and 4. put my moogerfoogers into the helix loops and heaven.

Helix is s damn flexible. I just wish it had 8 loops!

Quick question...... can you (or rather, is it advisable....!) to use IRs with a 'real' amp in 4CM?

Just got Glenn's Boutique pack, and I'm playing in 4CM. Planning to use the Marshall JVM JS poweramp for the amp section, then the modeled preamps and IRs...

I don't but some people do. Try and see if you like it

If you don't you well probably have to shelf some hi and low  frequencies with a wee EQ block

Again my patch has a split in the path at the end
one for "with cabs" and one for "without"

He's gonna have to gain a fair bit of weight to get that big.

For anyone who is curious, I uploaded my 4-cable-method atmospheric tones. They're here:

You'll need your amp in FX Loop 1

    This is a sick tone!

Will do some sound clips tonight. But essentially what I'm doing is physically patching send 4 into return 4, so I've got a software loop I can use. Then taking my dry guitar and processing it through my regular chain, as well as a special effects chain, and then returning that post-amp distortion so that it get mixed into the poweramp of my EVH.

It basically means I can generate these huge long-form textures underneath my guitar lines, and dial in the amount that I want with an expression pedal.

Hello phantom loller! Lol at this!

Did some more parallel ambience type stuff. I go through quite a lot of stuff in this one!

  • Sounds really good Drew.

I really fancy one of these but I'm just not enough of a tinkerer. I'd get lost in possibilities.

The thing is, it's so straight forward to use that whilst there are tons of possibilities, you get there very quickly. That video... 16minutes of freeform dicking around... and I came up with tons of ideas for tones.

Even if you're not a tinkerer, which I'm not, the Helix is great, I use mine for much more of a straight forward rock guitar sound with a few mods and delays here and there, and it is so easy to get great sounds out of it.

It sounds better than any combination of amp and pedals I've ever owned and it's so easy I gigged with it 2 days after I bought it and haven't used a real amp since

  • Kill II This are using Helix for guitar and bass, sounds pretty beefy to me.

The tone is fine, but jesus, did they just buy a "metal band by numbers" kit? Comes with the name, the riffs, the outfits and instructions for the stage moves in one easy box?

Just messing around with mine and found something out by accident. I loaded a JTM preamp and ran in straight into an impulse response. Sounded fantastic. Fat but present. Didn't expect that at all. More noodling required!

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.
