I need some inspiration ideas for a pedal that creates something monumentally savage, ear catching and cool in a "not what you'd expect a guitar to make" for a few seconds in song breakdowns.

Line 6 M5 with an expression pedal.

I had a patch which used the analog delay mode on one repeat, then the expression pedal to sweep the delay time, so as the delay changed in pitch you get a pseudo whammy that sits behind the original note. Also the frequency shifter patch was a crowd pleaser too.
