    Oh, and...

    FRANK FUCKING MARINO.

I like Frank Marino too.  I think, to be honest, he might be more well known if he was a better songwriter.  But for heavy rock music with TONS of lead guitar (which you don't hear much nowadays) he's great to listen to sometimes.

  • +1 for Wes Borland.

I was also astonished to see how goo John5 is when liberated from Marilyn Manson band duties.

At the risk of being run out of town, can I suggest the Edge?
He's the subject of much derision in the guitar playing community, but I think he's created some genuinely original sounds. (I confess to mentioning him in the guitar players who used to be great thread- I was put off U2 in general by some of their more recent stuff, but upon closer examination I don't think it's his playing I dislike so much as Bono's trite lyrics).

Ed Wynne, Phil Miller and Phil Lee. ................... Who? Oh and Richard Sinclair #1 if we allow Bass players, which also opens the door for Roly Wynne.

Yeah the songs wouldn't be my first reason to listen to him, but I like his voice and he's a shit-hot player.

He sounds like Hendrix might if he practised a little more :D

Captain Sensible (The Damned) - still my favourite guitar player ever - ahead of EVH and Brian Setzer...

He's solid as a rock, awesome live with The Damned, and he's all about melody...

Go to the top of the class (and I concur). Are you going to the Royal Albert 40th anniversary gig next year?

Matt Bellamy is a fantastic player, I never appreciated it till seeing him do it live.

Doug Boyle crikey! Saw him loads when he was doing his stint in Caravan, top shout.

The viola player in this clip is Geoff Richardson, also an underrated axe twiddler.

I'm gonna say Pete Doherty. He might be a bit of a ding but he can write some good tunes.

Do you think he'll ever sober up enough to release any of them?

  • Zal Cleminson of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, also with Nazareth for a couple of years. Come to think of it, Manny Charlton of Nazareth was a decent player also.

  • It sounds crazy, but I think James Hetfield is underrated!
He's GOT to be one of the best rhythm players out there.
