now this opens a whole new exploration - what does butter "sound" like ???
    Creamy.
    On that V advert:

It doesn't get any lower and it plays like butter. of course you can set it up anyway that you prefer. [...] A couple of minor indentations from changing strings ,not noticeable unless you search for them.
You can set it up any way you prefer, jam and cheese are fully achievable.
"Minor indentations from changing strings" ?

Do we have the definitive guide to " mint condition with just a few small gouge's in the back" list ?

    Can be substituted with :

...dirty great big crack from top to bottom
    ...new set of pickups required
    ...new neck required
    ...new body required
    ...whole new guitar required
...not really mint, but due to a lack of education and the ability to speak plain simple English, I like to use the word mint when spreading my butter.

...a little basil and some pine nuts, add olive oil (or butter...) and blend. Hey pesto.

I am still trying to work out why Buckle Rash on a 3 year old Historic Gibson Les Paul is "inevitable".
And you wanna know something else?
When I hand wash my car, I first of all remove the 71 huge keys which are hanging from my belt. I can't explain why I do this. I just do.

Actually - It is a shame that over use or misuse has ruined Plays Like Butter because back in the day everybody knew exactly what that meant. It only applied to certain guitars, and when you turned up with the cash....Yeah. It played like butter.

  • Really like that Suhr Scott Henderson, but the days have gone when I buy a guitar 'cos it looks nice.  Luckily I'm not likely to be going anywhere near Stockton-on-Tees, either (ever?).

Food and guitars seem to go hand in hand as I've heard there are scallop necks, Peach Guitars, Candy Apple Strats, and Butterscotch Teles too. And who are these cork sniffers? What next? Roasted and flame-grilled tops?

For those needing to keep an eye on their health, do guitars that play like butter affect your cholesterol?

Mmm, I can't agree with that. Personally I think it always has been a very daft thing to say about a guitar!

Or that "it plays like a dream". Wet? Scary? Surreal?

when I was building my first guitar I had a very vivid dream I still remember very clearly 12 years later.

I had made the guitar and was showing it off when i suddenly realized I had got it wrong.  It had a baseball bat for a neck.  Not a neck like a baseball bat... an actual baseball bat.  I remember trying to play, being embarrassed ... cue usual anxiety dream stuff and fluff

So for me that phrase means it plays terribly

I've not been so keen on butter having seen what Marlon Brando does with it.
