    No comment.  Slippery slope.

What I will say though is that after avoiding Synth-GAS for a very long time, some of the sounds on @GavHaus's new stuff are absolutely awesome and not healthy for the bank balance.  I'm now trying to convince myself that my fully expanded JV2080 & Korg should be enough but...

My muse is not a horse and art is not a race.

@randomhandclaps I know what you mean... I was watching this film on Netflix the other week and I just wanted to plug stuff in!

Brilliant! A synth that you can also play battleships on!

    Korg/Arp Odyssey
    MFB Dominion
Elektron Octatrack (Sampler not a synth)

I am well into my Eurorack these days and have to stop myself from getting Mutable Instruments Elements.

  • Currently I have:

    Roland Jupiter 6
    image

ARP Omni 2 string/ pararphonic synth
    image

ARP Odyssey Mk I 'whiteface" model (in need of repair)
    image

Yamaha CS 60 polyphonic monster from 1976
    image

Cheetah MS6 analogue, multitimbral polysynth module
    image

and an EMU Proteus 2000 rack rompler with the Virtuoso 1 card fitted in addition to the standard one.

The Odyssey I bought broken quite some time ago for £100. I got it almost working perfectly and, long story short, a vital part went missing. This was pre-internet and until relatively recently, I wasn't able to track down the part. When I have some spare time, I will renovate it and move it on. Much as I'd love to keep it, I'll need the money to fund moving to a much nicer part of the country. Sadly, the CS60 and Jupiter will most likely have to go too.

    I also used to have:

Control Synthesis Deep Bass Nine (basically a TB 303 in a rack)
    image

    Korg MS 10
    image

Moog Prodigy (lovely sounding little synth, this.)
    image

    2x Roland D 50 (at different times)
    image

and a Roland SH 101 (which I really regret selling. One of my favourites.)
    image

I'd love a Prophet 6, but can't envisage a situation where I'd have that kind of spare cash again. :-(

My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

    Oo a synth thread  :D

I'd love a Prophet 6. And a JP8 obviously, but that train has sailed.

Still, I have some nice things...

Here's the Mini after I had it re-finished last year

No pics handy but I also have a Jupiter 4 and and Polymoog Keyboard (a la Gary Numan). Oh and a Novation KS4. Er and a broken Logan String Melody in the garage. And a Yamaha CP30.

  • I'm enjoying my Prophet 6. It'll be a lifetime before I properly understand it, but by god it sounds lovely. Back in studio tomorrow, and suspect it'll feature prominently as our producer has fallen in love with it.

Must admit I occasionally think that selling the Juno would get me half way towards one, which is mighty tempting...

  • offer me a grand and a Juno 60 and I might be tempted :D

I'm sure you would :) I could buy new for that though.

Juno 60s fetch up to £1k these days from what I can tell, and mine is (overused word alert) mint, absolutely immaculate with original manual and patch cassette tape. And a new P6 is £2k. So sell the Juno and chuck another £1k in = new P6.

Admittedly I might have to wait a little while for a £1k buyer or settle for a little less, but I wouldn't be far off.

It's all theory anyway, I'm not that likely to put money where mouth is.

  • blimey, do they go for that much? i'd always thought around £700, but then I only really looked at Juno 6's. But yeah, the P6 is £2k on the nose if you ask shops nicely enough. I came into a chunk of cash which is why I bought one; had I have had to save for it, not sure I'd have gone so indulgent, but it is bloody lovely.

There's a few completed on ebay for £950, so yeah. (and some scammy-looking ones for a lot more).

£650-700 is the asking for a Juno 6 these days, though whether they get that for them I don't know.

Vintage analogue synths have gone mental lately, which strikes me as weird seeing as there's so much more good new analogue stuff out there now.

BTW you don't even have to ask nicely now - gear4music, Andertons etc advertsing at £1999
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • ah really? I bought when they'd only just landed - they were listed then for circa £2200. They were always going to come down mind you.

Aye it's the way of things. On other stuff I had a quick play of the Korg Odyssey in a shop the other day and left pretty impressed. I'd almost consider getting rid of my real ARP one for it, if it wasn't for the stupid mini keys. Grr.
