I've just noticed they're stocking the following in my local LIDL:-
Ukes, harmonicas, electronic drum pads, bongos, keyboard and guitar stands, Yamaha keyboards and a percussion set.

Great little starter sets at good prices for the kids.

  • I got an acoustic guitar a good few years ago from aldi or lidl, utter crap, was 75 quid, and unplayable, the frets were copper and the board was soaked in black in to the point that if you played for any length of time your fingers turned black. All of the bridge pins snapped when I went to change the strings.

If their other instruments are anythign like that one don't bother

I'm not a McDonalds burger. It is MkJackary, not Mc'Jackary... It's Em Kay Jackary. Mkay?

Despite the fact they're probably rubbish, part of me is wondering whether I would be killed or only slightly mamed by the girlfriend for getting the electronic drum kit thing or the bongos... Always fancied trying to play drums
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

No, they've got some minimum standard to maintain...

I feel sorry for 'legit' music shop owners, you must wake up some mornings go -- what's the bloody point

I doubt 'legit' music shop owners get any sleep at all these days given they're having to compete with the huge online box-shifters.

I bought a little soprano uke from Lidl a while back, it needed the action lowering a bit, and the intonation isn`t that great, but if you stay down at the head end it`s fine for practicing, and  it came with a CD and tuition book, all for the princely sum of £15  :)

I bought a keyboard stand off them years ago.  Dirt cheap and does the job.  Mind you, it's little more than two bits of box-section steel welded together and painted, with a few rubber bits on and a locking hinge, so it's not exactly easy to make it badly.  Personally, I would never buy any musical instrument from a budget grocery store.  I've learned my lesson on that front.  The real cheap stuff is always shit.  I spent years trying to learn on a 'Satellite' strat.  It weighed as much as I did with an action you could get your fist under.  I'm sure I'd have been better than Jimi Hendrix by now if I'd started off with a decent instrument.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

I got a Burswood mini A guitar stand for £5 from Home Bargains about 8 years ago, still going strong, though it'll never see a nitro or oil finish..... Again..

  • My dad proudly unveiled a 'keyboard' he had impulse bought from Lidl (his favourite shop). Kind of a casio, mini keys, a few sounds sort of thing. When he asked me to guess how much he had paid I said "£5.99" (I wasn't joking).  He seemed disappointed (it was £25 I think). Cheapest most useless bit of tat I had ever laid my eyes on!

I do like their olive oil though! :)
