Fret dressing

For those that do their own what implement do you use for sanding? Would a piece of mild steel bar or 2x1 tube be flat enough or should I get a piece of precision ground bar?

What grade of abrasive would you glue to it? and would spray contact ahdesive be the thing or would it likely be too lumpy?

I manage pretty well using a 2 foot box level I got for around a tenner from a well-known DIY superstore type place. You want the sort of level that has a precision-ground flat surface on the full length of one side. I'd say about 250 grit for levelling the frets - I just use double sided sticky tape to attach it to the level, and trim the edges flush with a craft knife. :)

Cheers @Megii that seems like a sensible idea, cheaper than a precision ground steel billet as well.

  • I use the technofret AFL bar, bit fiddly but it's pretty good and not expensive.

I'm going to ask if he'll do a short bar for fall away.

Grit is no biggie, if it wears away you're less likely to take too much off!
