Wiring diagram help

I've got a new neck pickup with 4-wires and I want to try a less conventional wiring combination. My guitar has 2 volumes, 1 tone and a 3 way switch. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that I could use?

I'd like

Position 1: Neck Hum

Position 2: Neck split

Position 3: Bridge Hum

Thanks! What type of switch is that? My tech is telling me to swap my normal 3-way out for a Dimarzio 4PDT switch.

It's a Telecaster type 3-way. 

If yours is a toggle type, then yes you need more poles.

You don't need a 4PDT for this. GuitarMonkey has it right.

Even if your switch is a toggle-type, you need a 3-way "on-on-on" or "progressive throw" switch, not a 4PDT.

That will work, but you only need a DPDT version of it - which is cheaper and easier to fit in the guitar - he's overcomplicating things if he thinks you need a 4PDT.

To do what you want using a DPDT, use one half of the switch to select the pickups, and the other half for the coil split. Just arrange it so that in the middle position, both neck pickup and coil split are selected.

Yes, like that - although I think that will make the pickup selection 'upside down' (down for neck).

To do it the other way round (down for bridge), if you label the terminals as they are arranged there

3  6

Connect:

1 to bridge volume

2 to tone control

3 to neck volume

4 to neck pickup red/white

5 to ground

6 not connected

Would this do? I'm gonna attempt to change the pickup myself.

This switch is very small and uses a ¼" hole. The hole for a normal guitar toggle is about ½".

I'm not aware of any "full size" switches that would do the job.

They definitely exist - MusicMan use them, and Allparts used to stock them. I can't find them online anywhere now though.

I can find the 4PDTs, and they will do the job - you can either just use half the switch, or parallel the two halves for better reliability, although that's quite fiddly with a 6-terminal switch! - but they're stupidly expensive…

Just to conclude this thread, I caved in to my tech's suggestion and just went with a push/pull pot. Cheers for the help fellas. You guys are fantastic.
