Could you

mike_lmike_l Frets: 5700
edited December 2013 in FX

could you play a gig (or at least a gig's worth of songs at home) using a 2-channel amp, and no more than 3 F/X pedals?

And what pedals would they be?

Mine

Weeping Demon

Bad Monkey

DD-6

I reckon I could.....just about.........

NB. Using any multi F/X is cheating........

Yeah easy - wah, distortion and delay and you're sorted. And only need 1 channel on the amp too. :)

We kinda think along the same line.

Only difference is I'd use the Amp's drive, then boost it with the Bad Monkey........

  • Easy. Depending on what gig, either:

    Wah
    Liquid sunshine
    Univibe

    Or VP Jr, hotcake, Timefactor

yeah that's what I meant - a single channel amp, so long as it's channel 2!

For many years I confined myself to two: Cry Baby and Tubescreamer, and of course the amp's spring reverb. Nowadays I'd add Chorus
Tree recycler, and guitarist with  https://www.undercoversband.com/.

    Easy.
I did a gig yesterday with a single channel non master volume amp and I used a Trelicopter, Liquid Sunshine and a Distortron.
I have done a whole gig using just a liquid sunshine into a clean amp.

  • I watched one of those Premier Guitar rig run downs yesterday. Jimmie Vaughan had one pedal ( Boss tremolo) for one song.

And off the shelf JV Sig MIM strats.

Although two mega buck handbuilt amps...

  • Why do you need a channel switching amp?

Gigged last Thursday with my Ric into a Boss TU-3 to a Biyang compressor to a Joyo Ultimate Drive to my AC-30. And didn't really need the compressor.

  • Yes, PRRI and Telecaster quite often for smaller gigs.

  • Yup, that's what I do all the time (not including a tuner, of course). Jet City JCA50H, phaser, boost, delay (and I could live without the boost if I had to). The wah's on my board (it's got a good buffer in it), but I never use it these days.

  • Yep, as the above posts, it would be perfectly fine. I'd use a boost, a muff, then depending if the amp had built in reverb, I'd either use a reverb or a chorus.

    Phaser

    Done.

I suppose delay would be nice for solo work, but other than that...

  • 2 channel amp and 3 pedals is over kill imo.

With a switcher yes. I guess the foot switch doesn't count as  pedal although you have to press it with your foot.

    koko boost,
    wah
    delay

For the current gig at least.

That was how I intended things, so, yes a channel switch for the amp isn't counted.

  • Push came to shove, I could gig with a single, heavy distortion amp and no effects.  I've never played an amp that doesn't clean up at least to some extent for the lighter stuff.

But I'd really miss fast phaser on my cleans.

Actually, I reckon I could do it with

a 2 channel amp set crunch (but can clean up with the guitar turned down) and driven

    as niceties

Easily. I could do it with just the amp.

My amp has reverb and tremolo, which I'd take as pedals if the provided amp did not have them, in which case I'd probably pick a MXR Micro Chorus as the third, or maybe a Boss PH-1R phaser.
