    Only three?   8-|

I shall have a listen later. I fear Norway will be getting 'nul points' again.

  • Tough one this. I am going to say:

    1. @Steamabacus

    2. @Cabicular

    3. @Kin

    Great efforts all round.

Shit I have no monitors and I've mixed my guitar way too low sorry
@steamabacus - nice riff that. I'd like to hear it developed into a tune
@kin - Jazzy and syncopated good stuff

    Errr that's it folks /)

  • Well, this is hard - choosing between two great entries but so different in style. So it's gut response and my dodgy digestive system has rumbled and gurgled and come up with ....

1st (5 points) @kin   ; Just had a certain quirky 'somethingness' that made me smile.

2nd (3 points) @Cabicular ; I love a bit of slow heavy funkiness and this got me grooving.

    and ... er ...

3rd (nul points) @Norway ; The joke's wearing a bit thin but unless more of you lazy feckers start riffing it up you'll have to keep enduring it.
    :P

And the scores this month are:

5 points @steamabacus - love that liquid distortion sound, very catchy.
    3 points @Kin - tricky and different
1 point @Cabicular - nice playing but yes, the guitar could have been a bit more up-front

Apologies for not entering and causing you to get @steamabacus's "Norway" joke again. I had a great riff in 5/4 ... on a synth. And it does say *guitar* riffs. And then I ran out of time while struggling with the SotM.

Anyway enough of the excuses. I'm already working on next month's riff.

5 points @steamabacus - Great sounding riff.  Sounds like you've got the rest of the track mixed already rather than just an opening riff.

3 points @Cabicular - Another great riff but as mentioned above the guitar was too low and didn't punch through enough.

1 point @Kin - Different and I loved some of the note choice.  I just didn't lock into this one I'm afraid.

I must try and enter this comp next time.

  • Thanks for the votes.

@ChrisRG ; There is only this riff, actually. I did switch on the computer for this one (I'll often just build something up on my looper pedal and record to minidisc) but it was just a quick session  - get a drum groove going with Addictive Drums and then lay down a few guitar and bass parts on the fly. A quick bit of mixing and it was done. The choice of pre-mixed kits/ambience in AD make it pretty quick to get something interesting to play along to.

That's pretty cool then. I wish my riff ideas sounded like that :).

  • I know voting is closed but I'm going to make a more concious effort to take part in this, even if just listening for now. My vote would have been;

    1. Cabicular. Mean-ass riff, sounded akin to a VH or Extreme song, which is my thing completely.

    2. Steamabacus. Yep, really liked that. Very catchy

    3. Kin. Loved it, different and interesting - but the rockier ones caught my fancy. Keep up the good work :)
