Manton Customs Horizon MK II Strat Inspired Superstrat Guitar Complete Build - Finished

This is another new model (well it was new late last year!) so thought I’d share it. Updates should be pretty quick as the guitar is finished and most of the work took place some time ago. I already had a neck built for it, so we will be focusing on the body until it comes to finishing/lacquering time when the neck will make an appearance.

The design is inspired by a Strat, but we haven’t leant on the original design too heavily, in fact the body shape doesn’t really share a line with a Strat, but the pickup and control configuration are the same and the influence is still visible. Because of this we have named it the Horizon MK II as the Horizon (MK I) in our range was very much in the style of a Strat and this is a continuation of that theme.

Below are the basic specs:

1 piece Ash Body (rear routed)

Natural Finish with contrasting grain fill

Maple Neck

Kingwood Fingerboard

Triple Kent Armstrong single coil pickups

Gotoh Chrome hardware

CTS pots

Here’s the starting point, a lovely 1 pc Ash body and if you look carefully you can see the outline of the body already drawn onto the blank.

The blank had some planer tearout and a slight cup to it, so I grabbed the handplane (no 4 ½) to smooth it out. As you can tell from all those shaving, I was quite busy that day and not all those shavings came from this guitar.

Next the body was cut out and the pickup locations plotted (hence the holes). I have also located the controls.

And here the pickups and neck have been routed for.

The back has some nice colour variations, which will look even better once finished. You’ll also notice I have routed for the control cavity here.
