Discussing the Charter

In a few hundred years, when historians look back at the defining documents of the development of human society, they'll talk about the US Declaration of Independence.  They'll talk about the Treaty of Versailles.  They'll talk about the Maastricht Treaty (though probably not in a good way).  And they'll talk about theFretBoard Charter.

(OK, so possibly not the last one).

 

We wanted to try to set-out our expectations, standards, principles (call them what you will) about how theFB would be used.

We didn't want to define rules for everything because we know that we couldn't.  And because there are far more things in this world that we'd rather be doing.  And because some people always want to bend, break or challenge rules.

We always wanted to keep theFB rule-light, and trust that people would use it for mutual benefit and enjoyment.  And we still want to run the place to those principles. 

The Charter is intended to describe our principles and expectations. 

 

Please read it, think about it, and let us know what you think.

 

In just a few (4) months, we've re-built a large, largely-harmonious, incredibly friendly (for the most part) and helpful community.  Actually, you've built it, we've just enabled you to build it. 

We want it to continue to grow and for it to continue to be an enjoyable place for many people to spend way too much of their time.  The Charter sets out how we'd like to achieve that.

 

We is the admin team.  For as long as our fourth member is concentraing on his cake-making, the admin team is @digitalscream, @monquixote and me - @TTony.

I think you guys have done a fantastic job of getting this forum up and running, I've just read the 'Charter' and think that comparing coming to the forum to walking in to a pub / bar is spot on, if someone is being a dick, walk away, if your always being a dick please go away.

Most of the people on here are great, have loads of knowledge and some fantastic guitars, most have a good sense of humour but it has to be noted that reading text is different to hearing the spoken word and sometimes things are misunderstood. A bit of give n take can go a long way to continue to make this place a nice place to be, long may it continue.

Keep up the good work guys @TTony @monquixote and @digitalscream.

I've always thought of this place as a pub. I've said that in the past.

I come here for the banter, I'm usually half cut, and if things are kicking off I walk away.

Now we have a charter when do the funny handshakes, weird & kinky initiations and being able to have people "sorted" when a forumee requires it.

Looks funky and easy to digest to me.

The charter is a great piece of work.  Well done TT.  

However..

"Everyone has a different dick standard"

First time I have seen the phrase written this way and in response I can only say

The whole tone of the charter is spot on.  Difficult to do in text but you have it right.
