Submarine pickup?

One of my wife's friends has a son who is a guitarist and has come up with a novel idea called a Submarine pickup because of its looks.

He's sold out his first batch so must be pretty decent.

I've alerted @chrisvinnicombe but looking at the site he seems to have had a lot of interest from guitar mags etc already.

I'm not an effects sort of bloke or a solo artist so it wouldn't really interest me but what do you lot think?

I saw these a while ago, it looked like fun. Didn't buy one right enough...

Would be a lot of fun the right hands. I'm thinking big doomy fuzzy bass set against washy delay-soaked melody stuff. You'd have to be an above-average player to make it not be horrible (or pointless!) though.

That's a very neat idea. Looks cool as anything too!

The added-bass sound in the video is great, much better than an octave pedal that's supposed to track only the low notes.

My next thought was to use it on the top two strings - with a bit of compression or even light overdrive, because it's hard to make single-string solos come out well on an acoustic normally.

I like that - I used to do similar with my VG-88, octaving just the bottom or bottom two strings.

That's really cool. I would make it sound rubbish, though!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Was just going to add, I wrote about the new Pro version the other day. I think it is a great idea myself.

It's not really a new idea. Xaudia amongst others used to make a whole variety of pickups with separate outputs for each string, but I think they've been discontinued as they were less popular than expected.
