  • No. Only youngsters have the skillz to circumvent the parental control.

Yeah reminds me of the washing machine which I accidentally 'Child Locked' the other day.  Took about five hours of internet research to unlock it.  A two year old would have had it working again in a few seconds.

Do they know Drew is away for a bit?

    ;)

When Virgin get around to this nonsense I will be proudly selecting the "hardcore porn please" option :). And I have kids. I also have child protection software which is set up on their logins...

I don't believe it's the place of either the government or ISP to control which legal content their users are allowed to access.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

So will I. The problem is all the other stuff that gets blocked intentionally or otherwise and it's the thin end of the wedge.

It won't be long before any site that doesn't reflect the views of HM Govt will be blocked, the way things are going...

You know what I can't work out for the life of me.

These days, now that every hover of your mouse is tracked, logged, computed, analysed and turned into marketing information which is then thrown back at you as targeted advertising or alternatively fed directly to the NSA analysts, via GCHQ,  why is it that I every time I visit my favourite porn site or run a search term on it, I keep getting more than a fair share of gay porn?....

Simple - they clearly know more about you than you know about yourself.

And this is one of the issues with the government/ISPs controlling what we can and can't see. The few court orders that have been issued to date have resulted in additional sites being blocked (the radio times being one of them), and there is no official process for complaints to be made and the erroneous blocks lifted. In the case of a commercial website, any downtime can be catastrophic.

And this is why we wanted a swear filter for people who aren't logged in!

That would make a lot of sense.  TFB is already blocked at my work and as I use o2 it looks like it's only a matter of time before I have to go through the hassle on unblocking it for mobile access.

I have no real issue with people swearing but if it means people can't get on the site then I'm not sure we're really winning anything...

Do you really have to swear on online fora?

I am no prude and in the right company find myself swearing with the best of them, I am a West Ham supporter after all.
    :-O

To me swearing in the written form always seems unnecessary and a bit arch.

Most other fora I post on don't allow expletives on the normal forum, only in the members section.

So people who aren't logged it would only see swear words rather than being able to parasitically steal our useful help and advice?  Or have I got that the wrong way around?  :-\"

It would replace the words "bigsby" and "relic" with "cunt" so as not to offend people.
