    Anyone said XTC yet?

Most underrated band ever, in my opinion

    Big Chief.

They were on Sub Pop, but they weren't grunge.  And they were great.

Have a super wis for that. They made the mistake of being too far ahead of their time. Black Sea sounds like it could have been recorded in 1990 rather than 1980. What a band.

    Family.

Yes - they had a decent career but I thought they would be much bigger.

  • Super Furry Animals - criminally underrated. Incredible songwriting, melodic, innovative, political, funny, subversive.......

  • Also Baby Huey - The Baby Huey Story: A living legend

    What a record that is.

    Extreme
    Mr Big
    Skin
    Thunder

And all those other post-hair metal, pre-grunge bands who were casually tossed away by their record labels when Seattle became the buzz word of 1991...
I love Thunder. And Skin. I wouldn't necessarily call Mr Big and Extreme underrated on the basis of member fame e.g. Bettencourt, Gilbert etc.whereas if you name-dropped a member of someone from Skin or Thunder they'd be like "who?"

    As for King's X - agreed.
And Rush - they've never played in Australia apparently. Don't suppose they ever will now. Shame :( DVDs it is for me then!

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Brilliant musicians with a totally unique frontman. As a guitarist myself I have always regarded Zal Cleminson very highly and he's probably an influence on me. I only saw them once with Alex and another time on the 'without Alex' tour. I think the vaudeville elements and, shall we say, material of lesser quality detracted attention from their best stuff which was (and is) superb. The 2000s reunion band was silly IMHO.

Excellent calls on King's X and Lindisfarne, who were huge when Fog On The Tyne came out. It's a really superb album. I saw King's X a few times, once supported by the Galactic Cowboys, great gig.

My two penn'orth - Taste, The Move and the Graham Bond Organisation.

    The Small Faces.
One day I'm going to make a guitar out of butter to experience just how well it actually plays.

Kings X sprang immediately to mind - huge sound for a 3 pc and each musician is just brilliant.
Exactly what I was going to say :)

A great band I saw them a few times. I also saw Tear Gas with Zal Cleminson in 1971, which was just before they joined up with Alex Harvey I think.

I'll echo Extreme and Living Colour, which have already been mentioned.

    It's not a competition.

One last one, my favourite band right now - regular forumites may well be sick of me mentioning them - Gov't Mule.

I quite like a band called Love from the 60s, I'm not sure though if they were well known or not, or whether they were given their due credit or not at the time or since because I wasn't born until 1987 :) but generally very neat song writing, Little Red Book especially could have been written this decade. Good band.

    Camel
But Camel were big in the 1970s and they still fill concert halls.

For high quality pop songs you can't beat the Bible .. maybe a better name may have helped but they were brilliant musicians and song writers.

  • How about The E Street Band? They make Bruce what he is & never seen to get the credit they deserve.
