Hardware synth/groovebox like the Tenori-On?

Is there one?

The Yamaha Tenori-On looks like it's a doddle to quickly programme - all thanks to that 16x16 set of LED/buttons. Are there any other hardware gadgets that work on the same principle?

Have you had a shot of the tenori app on the iPad ?

No, but I was tempted because the iMS-20 app with it's grid-based step sequencer is great.

But I just bit the bullet and bought a used Tenori-On. If I can't get the hang of it (!) it goes back on Ebay. But it looks like fun and something to leave out for dabbling. I did see a lot of control surfaces with hardware step sequencers (M-audio, etc), but none had the simple appeal of the Tenori.

There's also one for lower octaves, called the Baritoni-On.
