Gave the Spotify Discover Weekly podcast a listen yesterday and it popped up with this gem. ASG - Avalanche, I'd never heard of them before but I'm now on my 4th listen of their Blood Drive album since yesterday. Really great stuff ..

Anyone got any other good under the radar stoner rock suggestions?

Wasn't bad but I like my stoner rock to have a really huge sense of groove and this didn't really get my head nodding enough

  • In the late 90's/early 00's there was loads of great stoner related bands about.
Some maybe seen as a bit more doom, or sludge to some people, but they all really fall under the stoner 'umbrella', but all of these are worth a listen to if your new to this sort of stuff:

    Melvins-lysol
    Bongzilla-stash
    Sleep-holy mountain/jerusalem
    Colourhaze-tempel
The heads-everybody knows we got nowhere
    Witch-self titled (w/j.mascis)
    Electric wizard-dopethrone/supercoven
    Goatsnake-dog days ep
    Kyuss-blues for the red sun
    Burning witch-crippled lucifer
Church of misery/Iron monkey split cd
    Cathedral-endtyme
    Eyehategod-dopesick
    Acid king-busse woods
    Pentagram-first days here comp
    Orange goblin-time travellin blues

  • Sorry for digging this up, but I just wanted to know if there are any Stoner enthusiasts around here at the moment

Some more bands for the list:
-Stoned Jesus (Seven Thunders Roar is probably the album that made me love this genre)

    -The Necromancers

Goatsnake - Black Age Blues is great
    Acid King
Fuzz (both albums are awesome, II maybe slightly better)
    All Them Witches
    Baron Crane

I find a lot of it on the youtube channel Stoned Meadow Of Doom - lots of full albums of kinda unknown but great bands. Might as well put up a plug for my band as well although the only full track we have up at the minute isn't particularly stonery!

That's a great channel, although personally I've found most of the stuff I've been listening to the last few years through the "related artists" links on Spotify - I feel like I could go on forever just following those links!

That!! I follow SMOD 1 and 2 channels, and a big part of the music I listen to these days are random uploads on those channels. You should check 666MrDoom 's channel, it is also great in the same manner.

Oh, and I'm digging your sound, keep going man!

Thanks guys :) have to say the 2 tracks we recorded in the studio are my least favourite though, they're a bit basic sounding I think! Hopefully recording some new stuff soon that's a lot riffier :)

Saw a great stoner band in Southampton a few weeks ago... Dead Lettuce, a Bournemouth band.
They were on the wrong bill, bunched with a couple of NWOBHM revival bands, but they made a great noise - easily my favourite band of the night.

    Linky.... https://deadlettuce.bandcamp.com/

The power of the band doesn't quite come through their studio recordings but still cool.

Got to see Red Fang supporting Mastodon on Saturday night. They were superb. Good to see some new suggestions to check out on the thread!

I was wandering through the forum and found a post by @Corvus showing his son's band. I really enjoyed it, nice sounding stuff! I'll leave the track here as well

Cheers @RMBarradas ! Somehow a radio station in Texas found their track and played it the other day, they were very happy.

    Good thread, missed it somehow.

Been listening to Elder a bit lately, here's one to kick off -

Again, probably not strictly under the radar, but I do enjoy a bit of 'Corrosion of Conformity'.
Man or Ash is one of my favorite songs although I've never quiet gotten into the band fully. Might give an album a listen later.

Yes, Deliverance and Wiseblood are superb albums, Pepper Keenan also played with the heavily sabbath influenced Down, Stone the Crows being a classic tune.

Another band from the southern metal/stoner style of that time were Floodgate who made one excellent album, Penalty

It can be a bit difficult keeping up with these sub-genres - what is stoner rock?

Stoner rock was when hardcore kids and punks smoked too much weed and slowed down their black flag riffs.

Words can not describe how much I love Elder.

@prowla ;It's too difficult to explain in a few words* but the Wiki page is not a bad place to start:

(* But Reverend has had a pretty good stab at it.)

Blind may just edge them for me as it has more of a Trouble vibe. The promo track for the new one is promising.

Floodgate/Penalty were great. Singer is always cited as a the main influence on Anselmo.
