Guitarist-isms that make you cringe

What's Hot
I've a few.

Calling a vibrato a tremolo, when it's clearly a vibrato.

'plays like butter'.

Unforgiving amp/pedal/guitar. Guitars should be set up to be comfortable for you. Amps and pedals cannot be unforgiving.

'bloom'.

'syrupy'. Nope, it's a thick tone. It doesn't give you diabetes if you overindulge in it, thankfully.

Any I've missed?

I've always disliked the phrase "glassy cleans", I've tried plugging into my window and it never sounds like my Fender clean channel. Also, the usual crap about stuff looking battered having vintage mojo of course...
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

A value increase if done by a pro, a significant decrease if actually genuine.

I think we should have 'anti-isms' for bad guitars

For 'plays like butter' you could have 'plays like a slug pickled in molasses'.

My biggest hate is people saying 'rosewood neck' when they mean rosewood fingerboard.

Or saying that's a really 'warm' sound ... when they mean muffled to f--k.

I'm not passionate about it but I don't like the nut being referred to as 'top nut' there is only one so nut will suffice.

I don't have a problem with syrupy or glassy being used: they're just metaphors, something used all the time in music.

It is difficult to put a name or description to sounds so I guess "Glassy" or similar are quite descriptive.

I'm afraid, "plays like buttah" has me cringing ever time though and the word Porn added to anything that might be mildly interesting.

Also although mostly an American phenomenon, giving guitars girls names like, Cindy Lou, Heather etc etc is just a bit weird.

Yeah I don't have a problem with "Glassy" it's not easy to describe sounds so to me it just a convenient way of saying: "like a good strat neck pickup"

Why is important to criticise word choice to describe something that's hard to describe?

Sheesh, this place is getting worse than TGP, just 180 degrees the other way.
