My Taylor sounds lovely...

Phone camera so not brilliant quality, but I still think it sounds rather nice unplugged!

@Paul_C and @Sporky may recognise the song as "Sharks", from Silver Sun's second album Neo Wave. Absolutely lovely song... I tweeted (twat?) this video to James Broad, the band's frontman, and he responded favourably :D

If it's not "tweeted" then I think it's either "twate" or "twute".

I will have a listen later.

You play Em with your first and second fingers!

It probably makes sense in terms of economy of movement when changing chords - but I use my second and third. I'm going have to have some time to come to terms with this....

I play Em with either 1&2 or 2&3 as befits the occasion.

I normally play it with 3 and 4.

    ;)

(joking... I concur with Sporks, either way round works for me but generally it is 1 and 2, yeah)

That's the fingering that separates the men from the boys ;)

    Also, I must quickly correct you @richardhomer - it's not E minor.

    It's Eb minor :D

Yes, I like the sound of a Taylor. I know a lot of people don't. When I bought mine in about 2004 I was so pleased that I'd found the sound that I'd been looking for for about 30 years.

For you fingering pedants: you can use any of your fingers for Em. It just depends where you are coming from, or going to, or how you want it to sound. I often part damp particular strings, or touch them briefly to reduce their volume. So, for example, if the chord sounds too bassy I'll touch the open 6th string to reduce the bass volume; or I might use my little finger to stop the higher strings ringing for too long so that the sound is more percussive

    Down-tuners are either:
    a) Drop-outs who need a hair cut, or
    b) People who lack the strength to bend their chosen gauge of string, tuned to concert pitch....

Or people like Dave Keuning from the Killers, who play with keyboardists who like flat keys but who want to keep their open strings. Or people whose singers need lower keys but want to play in positions they already know.

I don't generally do it though, just because I can't be arsed with having loads of guitars all in different tunings. I like standard.

    Conformist!

My main acoustic is tuned down a whole step, which suits my voice and makes it easier to get into really weird tunings like CFCCGD (the 4th and 1st strings are already at the right pitch).

So which of your two options are you :D

I really love open C (Devin Townsend's favourite tuning) and a variation on it that I found - CGCGCD. Open Csus2 I suppose.

My acoustic was in Eb for a week or two, I enjoyed it actually.

Why don't more people tune higher? You can have more tension without heavy strings.

At least we're not discussing how to finger A minor.
