Insert Band/Artist from a Given Town or City in the U.K, (the smaller the place the better, but anywhere will do)

My go is, WHITBY.

ARTHUR BROWN.

What a great performance too, even if they did mime it.

Just a bit of fun, but I think this thread could "go places" ;-)

EDIT: It doesn't have to be your hometown ;-)

I'd post the same for my home town, but I can't decide between Nik Kershaw and Cradle of Filth :D

    Lol, surely it's Nik ;-)

I'm not from Whitby, btw. I love their Fish and Chips though.

  • Birmingham is a tricky one, too many to choose from....So I'll go with my town of birth, which is Oadby in Leicestershire.

Only famous person I know of from Oadby is John Deacon of Queen..which is good enough for me!

Steve Rothery was also from Whitby.

I'm originally from Hull so the obvious muso is Mick Ronson.

Currently live in Poole so Greg Lake

Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest out of Halesowen.
Temporary residents include Robert Plant and Bill Oddie but Glenn is/ was a proper local lad.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

I grew up mostly in Worcester, which for a relatively large town seems to have produced almost no famous musicians… about the only one I can think of is Dave Mason of Traffic, who also played the 12-string on the intro to Jimi's All Along The Watchtower.

Although if you're going to go beyond rock music, there's a good one…

Edward Elgar. (Not quite from Worcester itself but very close.)

    Belfast so,...

Gary Moore - not one of my personal faves, but a great player

Van Morrison - pompous, overrated, self-obsessed twat

Stiff Little Fingers - greatest punk band ever.

Best thing to come out of Luton ...... Paul Young. A good artist with a soulful voice, and a very hot (very shy) younger sister who was in my class at school!

Actually he's pretty much the only thing to come out of Luton.

I nearly mentioned him since my early childhood was in a village in Herefordshire - I moved to Worcester when I went to 'big school' - but a village in hillbilly country north of an obscure town in Herefordshire isn't quite close enough ;).

Also Elgar had a much more impressive moustache.

Just discovered that my current home town of Bury St Edmunds can lay claim to a number of also ran indie bands mostly because John Peel used to pretty much play anyone's demo if they lived up the road from him.

I am tempted to say that the best thing to come out of Inverness is the A9, but don't really mean it.

These days it must be Karen Gillan as we don't have a lot of famous Invernessians but have had a lot of big names live here or in the outskirts.

    Jimmy Page - Boleskine

Dan McCafferty from Nazareth parents - I know tenuous but he did visit and holiday here with them.

Gerry Rafferty - Beauly ish for many years.

Madonna nearly bought a house here so flew in and out a lot until her split with Guy Ritchie.

A whole host of minor zelebs over the years.
