I am tempted to say that the best thing to come out of Inverness is the A9, but don't really mean it.

These days it must be Karen Gillan as we don't have a lot of famous Invernessians but have had a lot of big names live here or in the outskirts.

    Jimmy Page - Boleskine

Dan McCafferty from Nazareth parents - I know tenuous but he did visit and holiday here with them.

Gerry Rafferty - Beauly ish for many years.

Madonna nearly bought a house here so flew in and out a lot until her split with Guy Ritchie.

A whole host of minor zelebs over the years.
I like the A9, they have numbered laybys. You can end up a long way from a petrol station though.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

No one from Bargoed where I was born and bred, but obviously loads from the valleys nearby ( the Manics used to come and watch me play ! ). Lived in Yeovil where we had the Chesterfields first then Polly(PJ)Harvey.

Now live in Sherborne where we have ..................................................ME !

I don't mind it either but it does seem to have a high percentage of crappy drivers and has a well deserved reputation for fatal crashes.

Although to be fair it is not the road but impatient weaver birds trying to crack on at silly speeds, except for when a tourist misses it has changed from dual to single or vice versa. A few deaths have happened this way over the years.

As you say though make sure you have a pretty full tank if driving the length of it.

  • Gillingham in Kent. Steve Grant (nee Pratt) of Tight Fit (the lion sleeps tonight) We went to the same school but he was a bit older. You may mock but he had at least 2 no 1 hits! Only other I can think of is Medway faves The Dentists. Great band. Got signed by East West but 2 lps later it was over. :\">

  • Steve Rothery was also from Whitby.

I'm originally from Hull so the obvious muso is Mick Ronson.

Currently live in Poole so Greg Lake
I'm going to have to be a Pedant, Steve Rothery was born in Brampton, South Yorkshire, he moved to Whitby. I only know that cos I'm also South Yorkshire.

    :)
Indeed, but Steve always lists Whitby as his hometown due to moving there when he was very young.

Grew up in Tooting Bec, so that would have to be Marc Bolan (he went to my secondary school)
Then moved to Sutton, Surrey when I was 14, so I'll throw in Robbie McIntosh (Pretenders, McCartney, John Mayer) but I could also have Quentin Crisp, H G Wells, Noel Coward, David Weir and a few lesser talents like Katie Melua and err Bradley McIntosh (SClub7)
Then moved to the next town, Wallington, Surrey and that would have to be Jeff Beck. His family home is 3 doors down from my current place and the elders of the street have regaled me with 1-2 stories. Even back then, he "littered the street" with Capris and Ford Escorts in various states of repair and the neighbours' teenage daughters would try to nick his kaks off the line! They also said Jimmy Page was a regular visitor.

You see, Jeff Beck is that good, even Jimmy Page wanted to steal his Knickers :-D

I love that Beck is a proper fast Ford boy racer too. Furry dice aots.

My hometown of Burntwood in Staffs has no musicians now (Jon Brookes of the Charlatans lived there) but as previously mentioned Lightening from Gladiators was in the year above me at school.

  • Sort of OT but maybe not, we have a Whitby here in Ontario, Canada and it's mostly known for it's very large insane asylum.

Hmmm, Kenilworth seems to have produced very few household names....however Leamington up the road is where Aleister Crowley is from...so that's nice.
