Aaargh, use of the dreaded 'Lester' word seems to be on the up...

Makes me cringe every time I read it. Maybe if there's an optional profanity filter introduced on here the words Lester, butter and buttah could be included?!

Personally I don't mine Lester, but dairy based descriptions of guitars should certainly be banned.

  • We should do a thread about this.

I hate reliced. Relicing is the orange (colour not the Amp manufacturer) fake tan of guitar finishes.

I think we need a whinge-filter as well.

We already discussed this somewhere, not long ago. There's a full thread. I can't remember what it was called, it had something to do with guitaristisms in the name or something along those lines. :P

I think the general consensus was that if it sounds like it could be written on the label of a bottle of fine wine, then it should not be used to describe guitars ;)

Depends, good Relics are great guitars in my experience, plus you don't have to worry about getting the occasional extra ding when you're gigging down at the Dog & Duck.

Love a good relic I do. That's a 'good' one. Don't like shite ones. Anyway, I don't think it's reliced, but more relic'd. Shiny and polishy are no good to me, far too clumsy.

People showing their irritation for others' use of words/language when it really doesn't matter a jot. That's on the up. ;)

  • Les Paul's real name was Lester William Polsfuss. So that is why they sometimes get called Lesters.

Where does the phrase "Plays like butter" come from, anyway? It doesn't make sense - not to me, anyway..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

If one uses a butter dish, like what I does, then spreading one's room temp' butter is effortless. I can assume that's where it's derived? Plays without much effort.

Can we still say 'cream-coloured' to refer to pickup bobbins, covers, and assorted plastic bits?
