Originals are very expensive. Anyone aware of a decent clone?

    JMK does a PCB for it that I've built one on in the past. Only ever built one though (mine), most people really don't like it ;) It's a bit mad, I love it.

    What does the tone change switch do? (apart from changing the tone)

    Just try a Superfuzz clone. These circuits are very similar.
    Here's one my company Fredric Effects build:

    I don't know about the Standard Fuzz, but if it's the same as on the Superfuzz (where it's a toggle switch rather than a footswitch) it takes it from a very mid-scooped, thin sound to a mid-forward sound. The thin sound is probably only of interest if you're doing 60s kitsch.

    <googles>

    Yep, that's what it does.

    The demo video doesn't make it sound quite as marked a change as I remember from by BYOC Superfuzz clone (button gets pushed at 1:02, again at 2:20) :

    Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

    If you want the tone shift on a stomp switch, you could try the SS/BS Buzzz. It ain't exactly  cheap but it's cheaper than vintage and very tweakable.

    I sometimes think it'd be cool to have just the tone circuit from this effect in a standalone box to try with other fuzzes. That doomy scoop would be great after a muff, I reckon.

    Yeah it sounds much tamer than a superfuzz in this clip. Like a SF with the 'expander' control dialled right back. May have to build one of these to compare!

    I do that on a knob... But you could easily do it with a switch also.

    FWIW, that demo posted of the Ibanez totally nails what it sounds like. Sadly this one of the Ultrastoner (recored on an iPhone) doesn't really capture it's ball-shaking abilities. Scoops much further than this also ;)

    Alternatively you could buy my multi-fuzz from the last purge (I'll be re-listing all that remains tomorrow). That's got the Ibanez clone that I made for me in it, along with a RM Spitfire clone, a Roland Bee-Baa clone, a Mosrite Fuzzrite clone, a silicon tonebender with tone (it's actually more of a Billy Gibbons sounding thing that) and s SHO. Along with sweet relay selection of the fuzzes...

    I decided to make 100 of these guys. There's one in Regent Sounds if anyone wants to try it, with more going to dealers next week.
