It's one of @GSPBasses "B" stock items ... (though, I'd say it's more like "AA-" stock!).  1pce Mahog body, 3pce neck and a rather tasty looking Rosewood (IIRC) board.  Nice.

It'll be a while before I have the time to do a proper job on finishing it, which gives me time to think about how I want to do it.

Most likely is a Wudtone finish from @andypwudtone - but I'm undecided on colour, and a couple of Oil City's finest from @theGuitarWeasel.  It'll obviously need a scratchplate of some sort, but that will be smaller rather than larger.

I may actually make up a couple of identically sized plates, with some "easyfit" connectors for the wiring, so that I can have it as either a 1 p'up or 2 p'up guitar without too much aggro.

    Hey Ttony..

Can't believe UPS let someone run off with all your hardware LOL

I would go for a very light/clear finish to show off that lovely wood & yes keep the p/g as small as poss so as much wood is on show as possible. You can't beat natural wood looks.

Looks great. Can't wait to see the finished pics.
    Cheers
    Baz

    That is beautiful.  :)

While I was deliberating, you swooped and grabbed a fantastic guitar, well done mate.

Looking forward to some pics as the finishing and build come together.

Now, if you get bored and want to give it a new home...   just saying    ;)
    ;)

I think your should do it with mini hums.

Of course if you have a replaceable plate you could do both.

That happens to me sometimes.  I see something, think "that looks good", and then wonder whether I should buy it or not.  Whilst I'm wondering, someone else nips in and whooosh, it's gone.  Happened recently with a PRS SE satin.

But when I saw Grahame listed this, I didn't think, I just said "mine"  :D

It'll be a while (months) before I get the time to do a proper job on it - and I want to do a proper job - so no pics for a while yet!

I'm leaning more towards the traditional P90s.  Hot, screamy, raw, take-paint-off P90s.

    *Jealous!*
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I'm assuming reds/oranges/browns will work best.

    Golden rod maybe.

Love the headstock veneer, would choose the body shade based on whatever complimented that.

This is just rubbing it in! ;-)

being the traditionalist, I was going to go for a light nitro cherry finish - before you beat me to it :-)

That's not a bad idea ... in fact, it's a good idea.  I'll see what Wudtone do in that sort of a colour.

would be nice to see it in a colour which is not one of the classic Gibson colours. Would look cool in a surf green or baby blue with that headstock veneer and a really nice dark brown torty guard.

  • Bloody hell, that's nice!

Ask Andy, he'll let you know what mahogany works with and what it doesn't. I think it's fine with nearly all of the translucent finishes, though they'll obviously mix with the original colour, so golden rod would probably make for an orangey guitar.

We need a finishing/build thread for this bad boy!

  • Nice body shape. Appears to have holes for a bridge but not for a stopbar.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
