Hi Steve I carved this one like all my others with a pin router first to get the steps then finish the rest by hand using scrapers and block and paper
I've done alot of carving over the years and just go for that vintage carve, which is not easy imo, I use a reference original 56 i looked at as my guide but
I do have a new secret now, I've had an original 56 carved top mapped and sent over to me so I can copy it on a copy carver
It's to keep things consistent and get vintage correct carves, which are the best to me

This guitar will be a model I will offer so this is to see how it turns out first

The only difference is I'll probably sculpt the body and upper fret access area which I couldn't do now because of the chambering, I didn't take notes

Finally finished, i'm totally happy about the goldtop but it was my first one and im not messing around with  it
The star was always the back for me anyway

Plays and sounds great and i'd definately do another semi chambered build, the mojo pickups p90's are fantastic btw

thanks I'm pleased with how it's come out, more importantly the tone and playability are spot on

I haven't really lost anything although it's a semi chambered guitar, I was always worried about doing that but now wouldn't hesitate doing another one

I've got a carved top dc junior style comissioned build next year with this old mahogany, should be good and different enough
