So, I'm wondering how we can do a home footage style showcase to put uo a video on YouTube.  Aside from going  the expensive gopro route, what other options are open? Any example videos about that you guys have shot?

This was recorded on a couple of phones and a Zoom H2 recorder jobby. It would be easy to do a similar approach and get a better product!
