First practice with a potential new band tomorrow night - eek!

I've got a try out with a blues band tomorrow night.  Bit nervous as I've not done this for a rather long time.  I've played a couple of times at a local blues jam night recently but not played with a potential band or new people for about 15 years (had a good 12 years or so of not playing before making a come back to it about 18 months back).

Has anyone got any advice on good things to do and bad things not to do?

I'm meeting a drummer and another guitarist but not sure about anyone else.

Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Just chill yer tits and you'll be fine. I had 3 hrs of playing bass last night to songs I barely knew. I'd never played bass guitar before last night. Went just fine.

I meant to say, look forward to it, don't dread it. You'll do good.

It's also you checking them out, it's important (well for me) that I get on with band mates. No egos etc.

You'll be fine. Let us know hoe it goes

Play in time to the other guitarist.

    Drummers are always out.

    Chill, enjoy.

Nice one, cheers for the tips.

Hadn't really thought about me auditioning them as well.  Makes total sense though.

You HAVE to be able to get on with them from the off. If there's any evident 'ego's' kicking about, I personally wouldn't bother. There has to be a band dynamic and structure, somebody, however reluctantly, has to be 'in charge' to guide things. That is fine. Blaring ego is a pain in the arse. Unless the Ego is REALLY REALLY good at what they do. then it's worth a think.

Oh yeah, unless you're auditioning for a speed metal band, keep an eye on your tempo..........

Just home. Popped into my local blues jam on the way home hence the late return.

The try out with the band went pretty well on the whole. The drummer had some issues with kit but we muddled through. Not convinced that this will be my gateway to stardom but could be some fun and hopefully a learning experience.

Excellent! I remember when we first got together. Fckn appalling. But good fun. The money bit comes second. As long as you all get on you'll muddle through the shit gigs and blast through the good ones. And it's a valid excuse to be buying more 'guitar shit'. ;)
