  • How long until the new Amelia hits the streets and muddies the waters further by giving you more Jet City amps to choose from? :)
Probably a month or two. It won't muddy the waters for me, though, because it has a clean channel and a drive channel - I need crunch and drive.
Both channels on the Amelia have gain controls- will it not potentially go dirty on both channels? Or do you need it thoroughly filthy on both sides?

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

Thoroughly filthy is the order of the day. To give you an idea...when I use a JCA22H or JCA50H, the crunch channel gain is on full, and that's my rhythm tone. If I need clean, I roll off on the guitar.

i don't think thats mad at all, i pretty much did exactly the same thing. I love gear and i love owning and trying new things, but i decided earlier this year that i should just have the basic gear i need to inspire me to play and write more. I ditched two brunetti's, a mesa and a marshall to build a simple rig, ditched the gibsons and fenders in favour of a one great playing guitar.

I settled on the humble Orange Dark Terror and a Blade Texas, its bloody simple but i do now spend more time writing and recording ideas rather than mindlessly searching for the grail tone.

I really don't understand how their brand isn't absolutely huge. I suppose it could be something to do with the misstep in the design of the effects loop on the JCA50H and JCA100H, or it could be the rumour some retailers started about them being unreliable (when it was actually that they got shafted by the distributors, but couldn't say that in public without looking petulant).
I know a good while back on another forum a (UK) guy who worked in a guitar shop said it was because we internet types (he's one too, lol, he was including himself in that) aren't really like regular customers. I think his shop stocked them, and most customers didn't care less. Most of his customers hadn't even heard of Soldano. Plus a lot of people see that they're cheap and think they must suck, and then go and buy something worse for more money.

I mean, I agree with you 100%. I recommend them all the time over on Ultimate Guitar, they're hard to fault for the price. Really good amps full stop (apart from the loop, maybe), but the fact they're about £250 for the heads is crazy. I mean, I can buy a Jet City head for not much more than a Wampler SLOstortion. Which is kind of hilarious and crazy at the same time.

That's fair. I was at a gig once with the Decatone and one of the Jaden Rose guitars. Had a guy come up to me...

"Why are you playing a cheap Marshall copy and an Ibanez knockoff? Get yourself a Les Paul and a JCM800, you'll sound miles better."

    I larfed.

    I know what you mean.

When people are asking what the best boutique high gain pedal is I often think of saying "just buy a Jet City" (assuming they are bedroom players)

I was talking to someone recently who said a punter had come up to them after a gig pointed at their Suhr and said: "Do you hope to get a real Fender someday?"

Hehe...there is another point here. I've been using the Jet City gear for so long that I know the controls inside-out, to the point where I can make blind changes to the EQ in the middle of a gig and know exactly what the result will be. I've had the Kraken for nearly a year, and I'm still not there yet.

That tells me that I'm just more comfortable with the Jet City tone stack.
And here is the rub mate... Most of the time, we dont actually get to KNOW our gear. When you reach the stage that you have with the Jet City amp, its wonderful. You knownthe stremgths and weaknesses and the best way to dial em in and out.

The whole situation is def leaning toward a two-amp set up though ;)

I'm sure that punter came to an unexpected demise not shortly afterwards

That sounds like me. Except that I'd have said Squier :).

Yeah, but it's fun the other way round, when someone thinks your partscaster is an expensive custom guitar.

@digitalscream. You do realise, don't you, that whatever equipment you use you won't be satisfied? It's the nature of the game. The better you ears get the less satisfied you become.

That's the idiotic thing. I'm always happy when I'm using the Jet City kit; I do, however, always wonder if there's anything better.

Thing is, I haven't come across anything yet. I'm definitely going to be going down the Kemper route at some point in the next year or so, and with that in mind I'm going to be profiling the Kraken with a mate of mine this weekend. Just in case, y'understand ;)

...or my current thought - get a high-end amp module (like the Matrix GM50, which they don't seem to make any more) and put it in my cab.

  • You're not mad. I ditched a Mesa Dual and Reeves Custom 50 in favour of a 5w Laney Lionheart earlier this year! Was worth it in so many ways!

I now have the 20w version but that's only because I saw it going cheap and couldn't resist.

Sometimes a certain amp just works, no matter how much hype surrounds these big name "holy grail" amps.

In over 50 years of playing I've learnt there is no "Holy Grail".
It's a waste of time, money and effort.
